Joe Root and Harry Brook both slammed double centuries to take England’s score to over 700 in Multan.

Pakistan would have thought they had gained the upper hand in the 1st PAK vs ENG test in Multan after amassing 556 runs in their first innings. However, they lost the upper hand once Joe Root and Harry Brook got going.

Not only England have surpassed Pakistan’s first innings total but also took a lead of over 150 runs and they have done it at a run rate of five runs per over. This means that England have given themselves a chance at a victory.

Only eight times in the history of test cricket has a team lost a test match even after scoring over 550 runs in their first innings. Could Pakistan add themselves to this list in Multan?

Well, this question has been forced through due to the double centuries of Joe Root and Harry Brook. Root has continued his unbelievable form in test cricket, which has made people wonder if he could surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 15,921 test runs.

Root was finally dismissed on 262, scored with the help of 17 fours. During this innings, he has broken a few big records. Let’s have a look at them.

List of records achieved by Joe Root in 1st test against Pakistan:

Overtook Sir Alastair Cook to become England’s highest test run-scorer

The most-talked-about achievement of Root in this game is that he went past Sir Alastair Cook’s tally of 12,472 runs to become England’s leading test run-scorer. Cook had scored these many runs in 291 innings at an average of 45, while Root broke his record in his 268th innings and currently averages 51.

Second-most double centuries in test cricket

In Multan, Root notched up his sixth test century, which is the second-most by an England batsman. Wally Hammond holds this record among Englishmen with seven double tons.

Became first ever England batsman to score over 20000 runs in international cricket

Already England’s leading international run-scorer, Root has now become the first from his country to amass 20000 runs in international cricket. The next-best is Alastair Cook with 15737 runs. Root has 51 centuries across formats in the England shirt, 35 of which are in test cricket.

Overtook AB de Villiers (20014 runs) to become the 12th highest run-scorer in international cricket

Root went above the legendary South African AB de Villiers to become the 12th-highest run-getter in international cricket. De Villiers had 20014 international runs at an average of 48. Ahead of Root on this list is Pakistan’s Inzamam-ul-Haq with 20580 runs.
