IPL 2024 auction was held on December 19, 2023 in Dubai.

IPL 2024 auction concluded with history-making bids from franchises on December 19 in Dubai’s Coca-Cola arena. For the first time ever, the barrier of INR 20 crores was broken not only once, but twice, while bidding for the players reached new heights.

A total of 72 players were handed an IPL contract on Tuesday with 10 teams splurging a combined amount of INR 230.45 crores.

Pat Cummins was the first player to break the 20 crore barrier as he received an INR 20.50 crores bid from Sunrisers Hyderabad. But his record lasted only a few minutes as Mitchell Starc went for INR 24.75 crores as Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank to get Australian pacer in their squad.

New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell came close with ₹14 crores. He was picked up by CSK. On the other hand, PBKS splurged INR 11.75 crores for Harshal Patel. In the accelerated auction, uncapped Australian left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson grabbed attention after Gujarat Titans acquired him for 10 crores.

Amidst all the rain of money on players, there were still a few players who failed to get a buyer and were left unsold.

9 players who had a base price of 2 crores but remained unsold in IPL 2024 auction

There were a total of 23 players who had kept their base price at the highest slab of INR 2 crores in IPL 2024 auction. Most of the players received bids in this price band with Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins going over INR 20-crore amount as well.

However, some of the players were not able to receive any bids. Steve Smith’s name came up twice in the auction, but Australian batting master failed to receive any interest from the franchises. Josh Hazlewood also went unsold, but the reason was that he would miss the first half of IPL due to the birth of his child and hence, franchises didn’t show interest in him.

Here are the 9 unfortunate players with base price of INR 2 crores who went unsold:

Steve Smith, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazlewood, Adil Rashid, Rassie van der Dussen, James Vince, Sean Abbott, Jamie Overton, Ben Duckett
