India women defeated South Africa in the final of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai.

India women’s team fulfilled their long-cherished dream as they defeated the South Africa team in the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in Navi Mumbai and became the ICC World champions for the first time.

Laura Wolvaardt won the toss and opted to bowl first. Shafali Verma set the stage ablaze with a brilliant 87 off 78 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, sharing a 104-run opening stand with Smriti Mandhana (45).

Jemimah Rodrigues (24) and Harmanpreet Kaur (20) made promising starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores. Deepti Sharma, however, anchored the lower order with a gritty 58, supported by Richa Ghosh’s quickfire 34 off 24 balls that included three fours and two sixes, guiding India to 298/7 in 50 overs. Ayabonga Khaka was South Africa’s best bowler with 3/58.

In the chase, Laura Wolvaardt continued her sublime form with a classy 101 off 98 balls, striking 11 fours and a six. Tasmin Brits (23), Sune Luus (25), and Annerie Dercksen (35) provided starts but couldn’t capitalize as the required rate climbed.

Deepti Sharma starred with the ball as well, taking 5/39 — including Wolvaardt’s wicket — to bowl South Africa out for 246 and seal India’s 52-run victory in the final.
