The IND vs BAN test series will feature some great bowlers, including Ashwin, Jadeja, and Shakib.
India and Bangladesh will clash in a two-match test series, starting September 19. The Indian cricket team have won 11 matches out of 13 they played against Bangladesh, while two tests were drawn. Bangladesh have never won a test match against the Asian giants.
So far, Bangladesh have toured India for test series twice, in 2016-17 and 2019-20. They suffered crushing defeats at the hands of the Indian side on both tours. The upcoming two-match series will mark the third instance when Bangladesh will play a test series in India.
The opening test will be played from September 19 in Chennai. Kanpur will host the second match of the series from September 27.
Let’s talk about three bowlers who could be among the highest wicket-takers in the IND vs BAN test series.
IND vs BAN: Predicting top 3 wicket-takers in the test series
3. Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh)
Veteran all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz is the third-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in test cricket. So far, Miraz has taken 174 wickets in 45 matches at an ordinary bowling average of 32.72.
The all-rounder was the highest wicket-taker in the recent test series against Pakistan in Rawalpindi. Miraz bagged 10 wickets in the two-match series.
The 26-year-old also has a decent record against the Indian cricket team in tests. In five matches, the off-spinner has taken 14 wickets.
With the Indian batters struggling against spinners on spin-friendly tracks in recent years, Miraz could bag plenty of wickets in the IND vs BAN test series.
2. Ravindra Jadeja (India)
Veteran Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has played a vital role for his side in test cricket for over a decade. The all-rounder has scalped 294 wickets in 72 tests till now. The two-match test series against Bangladesh will be played in Chennai and Kanpur. Jadeja has a good bowling record in these two venues.
In two test matches in Chennai, the left-arm spinner has bagged 15 wickets at a superb bowling average of 19.80. Jadeja has also taken one 10-wicket match haul at the MA. Chidambaram Stadium.
In the Green Park Stadium, Kanpur, Jadeja has scalped 11 wickets in two tests at a bowling average of 20.72. He has one five-wicket haul at this venue in tests.
He is a strong contender to become the leading wicket-taker in the IND vs BAN test series.
1. Ravichandran Ashwin (India)
Ravichandran Ashwin has been the backbone of India’s spin bowling attack in test cricket, especially in Asian conditions. The senior cricketer is the second-highest wicket-taker in tests for his nation, behind the legendary Anil Kumble.
Ravi Ashwin has excellent numbers in Chennai and Kanpur. The veteran cricketer has played four tests at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, which is his home city. Ashwin has taken 30 wickets at a bowling average of 23.60, including four 5-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul here. The off-spinner has taken 16 wickets in two outings in Kanpur, where Ashwin has a bowling average of 21.37, which includes one 10-wicket haul.
Against Bangladesh, Ravi Ashwin has scalped 23 wickets in six tests. In the upcoming test series, Ashwin could end up as the highest wicket-taker.
