R Sai Kishore was part of the MS Dhoni-led CSK for two IPL seasons.

Tamil Nadu spinner R Sai Kishore has revealed a peculiar habit of MS Dhoni and his aversion to using mobile phones. Sai Kishore joined Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 season at his base price of ₹20 lakhs. Despite being in the squad for two seasons, he did not play any games.

MS Dhoni still makes the IPL fans chant his name for the entire match despite retiring from international cricket in 2020. He has been part of the IPL since the inaugural edition in 2008 and has won the IPL five times as the CSK captain.

He gave up captaincy in 2024, handing the responsibility to Ruturaj Gaikwad, but took over as captain in IPL 2025 after Gaikwad got injured. Despite his magical captaincy, CSK managed to finish last on the points table.

Another former teammate has emphasized Dhoni’s intolerance to phones. His absence from social media remains a topic of conversation in cricket circles. The ever-changing landscape of the IPL stands in stark contrast to MS Dhoni’s steady leadership style.

His primary beliefs include keeping to the basics, accentuating procedure, and maximizing control over controllable variables. These principles have helped him become one of cricket’s most successful captains.

In a recent conversation on Provoke TV, Sai Kishore shared insights about Dhoni’s approach to technology.

I have learned a lot about this from MS Dhoni. He would never pick up his phone. He used to leave his phone in his hotel room and come for the games. That’s how detached he would be. This inspired me because I used to ask myself if being involved in social media was needed. So looking at him inspired me,” Sai said.

Dhoni is expected to play for the CSK in IPL 2026 season, probably his final appearance in the tournament.
