Ravi Ashwin retired from international cricket earlier in December 2024.

Former Indian all-rounder Ravi Ashwin has clarified his tweet that he made during day 5 of the Boxing Day test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25.

Ashwin announced his international retirement after the third BGT 2024-25 test in Brisbane. His sudden decision shocked fans and sparked discussions about whether he was forced to retire by the Indian management, including skipper Rohit Sharma.

The 38-year-old has since spoken out, stating that he holds no bad feelings or sadness about his decision and clarified that he never reconsidered his retirement.

However, his tweet on Monday, December 30, left fans wondering if the off-spinner was taking a dig at Rohit Sharma. Ashwin posted on X, “Good leaders emerge when they show resolve for a scrap“.

The timing of the tweet was important, as it came right after the dismissals of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on day 5’s morning session of the MCG test. Fans speculated that Ashwin might have been taking a shot at Sharma, who has struggled in the series, managing only 31 runs across five innings.

The Indian all-rounder however, has now issued a clarification of his previous post.

Ravi Ashwin issues clarification over his “Good Leaders” tweet

Ravi Ashwin retweeted his earlier post, clarifying that the word “scrap” referred to Yashasvi Jaiswal‘s gritty innings. He also mentioned that implied meanings are often taken out of context on social media.

Ashwin wrote, “Now a days, implied meaning can be taken out of context. I was referring to Jaiswal’s wonderful scrap today. Peace out folks.

He also added on a lighthearted note, “This tweet is not for people who own fan clubs.

Ashwin will represent Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. With his return to the franchise, the fans will get to witness the Ashwin-Jadeja partnership again in the world’s biggest T20 league.
