Ravindra Jadeja scored a 89-run knock in the first innings of the Edgbaston test.

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja gave a bold reply to England’s spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel’s remarks. Patel had claimed that his side have a 100% chance of victory in the second test. India Cricket Team and England Cricket Team are locking horns with each other in second of the five-match test series at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

India have gained a dominant position in the match after posting a mammoth total in the first innings. After being asked to bat first, the Shubman Gill-led side piled up 587/10 in the first innings. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 87 runs to provide a good start to the batting.

Later, skipper Shubman Gill (269) hammered a stunning double century to shatter plenty of batting records. Ravindra Jadeja also added crucial 89 runs with the bat. The visitors also made a stunning start to bowling by getting three early wickets. Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj helped to demolish England’s top three batters cheaply on day two.

Even after England’s dismal show in the first innings, their bowling coach Jeetan Patel was still confident of their victory in the match. While speaking to reporters at the end of day two, Patel said that England will find a way to victory in the encounter.

“100 per cent. I’ve said this many a time in front of all of you, and you keep laughing at me. But we’ll go back in there, and we’ll have a quick chat about how the day’s gone, and what might look forward for tomorrow,” Patel was quoted as saying by ANI.

“I just think we’ll find another way to do it. We’ll just try to find another way to get over the line. And I think that’s the beauty of the team that we have, and the players that we have, and the belief they have in how they want to go and play the game,” he added.

In response to Patel’s remarks, Jadeja said, “In a press conference, you can talk whatever you want, that is none of my business. You have to go out there, perform and take those 20 wickets. That is what matters”.

Meanwhile, England failed to have a good start with the bat in the first innings of the Edgbaston test. They lost five wickets for 124 runs on the scoreboard. Key batters like Ben Duckett (0), Ollie Pope (0), Ben Stokes (0), Zak Crawley (19), and Joe Root (22) failed to go big with the bat.

Harry Brook and Jamie Smith, however are keeping their side in the game. Both have slammed half-centuries in the first session on day three.
