Rishabh Pant scored 49 runs in two tests against South Africa.
Following the 2-0 series loss to South Africa, Rishabh Pant apologized on social media to Indian supporters. The Proteas dominated the two test matches in Kolkata and Guwahati, giving India a 0-2 whitewash at home. With the victory in Kolkata, South Africa, the current ICC World Test champions (WTC) won their first test match in India since 2010.
Then, in the second Test, the visitors inflicted India’s biggest defeat—a 408-run loss—to seal their historic series victory. After their 2-0 sweep in February and March of 2000 under Hansie Cronje, South Africa had now won two test series in India.
“There is no shying away from the fact that we didn’t play good enough cricket over the last two weeks. As a team and as individuals, we always want to perform at the highest level and bring smiles to billions of Indians. Sorry, we couldn’t live up to expectations this time, but sport teaches you to learn, adapt and grow – both as a team and as individuals,” Pant posted.
“Representing India is the greatest honour of our lives. We know what this team is capable of and we will work hard, regroup, refocus, and reset to come back stronger and better as a team & individuals. Thank you for your unwavering support and love! Jai Hind,” he added.

“It’s little disappointing”- Rishabh Pant on Guwahati test loss

After the game, Pant, who had filled in for injured Shubman Gill as captain in the second test, voiced his disappointment. Pant himself was disappointing with the bat as well, scoring only 49 runs across four innings, with the highest score of 27 with the bat.
“It’s a little disappointing. As a team, we need to get better. We need to give credit to the opposition. They dominated the series, but at the same time, you can’t take cricket for granted (because of playing at home). We need to take the learning and stick as a team. We needed to be clear with our mindset. In the future, we need to learn from it and get better,” Pant said in the post-match presentation.
The wicketkeeper-batter had said that South Africa played better cricket throughout the series.
“They played better cricket; cricket demands that you need to capitalize as a team. And we did not do that, and that cost us the whole series. The positive will be focusing on our own plan and that’s what we will take from this series,” he added.
