Rishabh Pant scored his sixth test century during the first test match against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has finally revealed why he set the field of Bangladesh during the first test match in Chennai. Pant, who was playing his first test after surviving a life-threating car crash in December 2022, made a remarkable return to the longest format of the game.

In India’s dominant win by 280 runs over the visitors on September 22, the wicket-keeper batter Pant played vital knocks in both innings. Pant scored crucial 39 runs in the first innings.

The left-handed batter then slammed 109 runs off 128 deliveries, including 13 fours and four sixes in the second innings, which helped India set a huge target of over 500 runs for Bangladesh.

During the match, the 26-year-old was also back with his funny nature on the field. Pant was seen on multiple occasions having funny verbal talks with Bangladesh fielders while batting.

In one such incident, he was seen guiding the Bangladesh side to set the field. Interestingly, the visitors’ skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto agreed to Pant’s advice and set a fielder towards mid-wicket.

Quality of cricket should keep improving: Rishabh Pant

After winning the Chennai test, Rishabh Pant opened up on his lighthearted moment of directing Bangladesh fielders during the match. The keeper-batter said that he had a conversation with former cricketer-turned-commentator Ajay Jadeja, and he advised him to improve the quality of the game, irrespective of the opposition.

Pant further added that he noticed two Bangladesh fielders standing in the same area and no one was at the mid-wicket. So, he suggested one Bangladesh fielder move to the vacant position.

“Firstly, I keep talking to Ajay bhai off the field. He says that ‘the quality of cricket should keep improving’. Whenrever you are playing and whoever you are playing against. I saw that there was no fielder there (mid-wicket). I saw two fielders at the same area. So I told them to move one fielder to the mid-field position,” Rishabh Pant said after the match to broadcasters.

The second test match between India and Bangladesh will be played at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur from September 27 to October 1.

After winning the Chennai test, India announced the squad for the final match of the test series. There are no changes in the 16-member squad for the Rohit Sharma-led side.
