Rishabh Pant suffered a toe injury during the fourth test against England earlier this year.

Indian Cricket Team test vice-captain Rishabh Pant talked about the frustrating injury that he faced during the test series against the England Cricket Team. The keeper-batter also thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence’s (CoE) staff for helping him through his recovery process.

Rishabh Pant, who ahead of the test series against England was appointed as the vice-captain, suffered a toe injury in the fourth test while batting. However, after that, he was ruled out of the fifth match, which took place at the Oval in London.

It was expected that he would make a return in the test series against the West Indies. But his recovery took much longer than expected. He was ruled out of the two-match test series but now has made a return with the India A game in the unofficial test series against South Africa A.

Rishabh Pant is captaining the India A team in the series but his return wasn’t fruitful as he scored just 17 runs. But what was the positive for him, he looked in great shape and was spot on with his keeping and captaincy.

During an injury, it’s easy to lose motivation – Rishabh Pant

Following his return, he shared insights from his recovery process. Speaking in a video posted by the BCCI, he said:

The first part of the process was healing. For the first six weeks, you have to let the fracture heal properly and then report to the CoE. Thankfully, the healing went well.

“I started my rehab gradually. In the early days, there was a lot of physiotherapy and careful monitoring. Once I regained some mobility, I began focusing on building strength, which marked the start of the second phase. Right now, I’m happy to say that I’m fully recovered, and I owe a big thanks to the CoE staff for helping me through it,” he added.

Pant highlighted the importance of being positive, saying that injuries can frustrate the players. He added:

“Being positive is really a mindset thing. During an injury, it’s easy to lose motivation. Your energy levels drop, and frustration builds up. But if you can find small things that make you feel good, it’s important to hold onto them, especially when you’re going through that period.”

Pant is expected to be part of the Indian team for the two-match test series against South Africa. The series will begin on 14th November at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata and will be part of the ICC World test Championship (WTC) 2025-27.
