"You need experience.."- Rohit Sharma hints on Jaspirt Bumrah's possible international return
Rohit Sharma is hopeful for Jasprit Bumrah's return ahead of 2023 ODI World Cup.
Team India will start their World Cup preparation with a three-match ODI series against the West Indies, starting on Thursday. Both teams will lock horns in the first of three ODIs on July 27 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown. Rohit Sharma and his men won the Test series 1-0, with the second test ending in an unfortunate draw. India will test their new pace attack, which doesn't have Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, or Mohammed Siraj.
Bumrah has been out of action for almost a year now due to his back injury, while Shami and Siraj have been rested due to workload management. Bumrah played his last game in September 2022 against Australia at home. He underwent surgery and has been completing his rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
"He is coming back.."- Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah's possible international return
Bumrah has missed the IPL 2023, T20 World Cup 2022, and WTC Final 2023 since his injury. Though some media reports confirmed that he is recovering well and is expected to return soon. In one of the updates from the BCCI, it was learned that the pacer has started bowling practice at the nets. Undoubtedly, Jasprit Bumrah will have a key role in the Indian team with the Asia Cup 2023 and the ODI World Cup coming up.
Meanwhile, in the pre-match press conference, Rohit Sharma spoke about Bumrah's importance to the team and said that they are in touch and taking reports on his progress. The Indian captain stated, "We will try to give him as much game time as possible before the World Cup. So the more he plays, the better it is for himself as well as the team. You need experience when you go into big tournaments."
Furthermore, the Indian captain also spoke about how the management is trying to identify players who will be part of the World Cup and making sure that they can get matches under their belts. The Indian management is focusing on the pool of 15-20 players in the playing XI who can be part of the upcoming mega event in India.
