Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar become the first father-son duo to play in the IPL
Sachin Tendulkar played for Mumbai Indians in the IPL from 2008 to 2013, While Arjun Tendulkar made his debut today.
Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun Tendulkar become the first father-son duo to play in the IPL as Mumbai Indians (MI) handed Arjun his debut cap after much wait for their IPL 2023 game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 16, 2023 in Wankhede Stadium.
Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the stand-in captain in absence of Rohit Sharma, who is out due to a stomach bug. Mumbai have won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Arjun Tendulkar has played 7 List A matches and 9 T20 matches so far for Mumbai and Goa. He has taken 8 wickets in List A at an economy of 4.98. On the other hand, Arjun has taken 12 wickets in T20 and his economy is 6.60. He recently scored a century on his FC debut for Goa.
He has proved economical in both One-dayers and T20s so far. In the first-class format, he has taken 12 wickets at an economy of 3.42 and scored 223 runs including a century and 120 is his highest score.
Sachin Tendulkar, on the other hand, was the icon player of the Mumbai franchise when the IPL 2008 began. He played for MI from 2008-2013 and retired when MI won their first title in 2013. He played 78 games scoring 2334 runs at an average of 34.84 and a strike rate of 119.82. He hit one century and 13 fifties. He also hit 295 fours and 29 sixes.
Tendulkar was the first Indian to wear and win the Orange Cap for the most runs, a feat he achieved in IPL 2010.
Mumbai Indians win the toss and chose to bat first
Suryakumar Yadav came out for the toss in place of Rohit Sharma, who is sitting out today with a stomach bug, and won the toss. He decided that MI will bat first.
"Will love to bowl first, the wicket looks dry. The ball comes onto the bat nicely later. Rohit is out, he has a stomach bug. Time to put up a good show. We are going with one change, Duan Jansen comes in, rest all is same," Suryakumar Yadav said during the toss.
