Abhishek Sharma slammed a quickfire half-century against Pakistan to win Player of the Match award.
Former India opener Virender Sehwag gave priceless advice to Abhishek Sharma after the latter led the Indian Cricket Team to victory against Pakistan Cricket Team in Super Four clash of Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 21. Sehwag urged Abhishek to convert his knocks into centuries whenever he reaches 70s or 80s.
The left-handed batsman grabbed the spotlight with his aggressive batting show against Pakistan, smacking 74 runs off 39 balls with five sixes and six boundaries. With an opening stand of 105 runs with Shubman Gill (47), Abhishek set the platform for the team’s victory while chasing 172.
Pakistan bowlers looked completely helpless against the Indian openers, who hammered them all over the park in the first ten overs at a run-rate over 10. Abhishek was adjudged Player of the Match for his match-winning knock after India crushed Pakistan by six wickets in the encounter, which took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Virender Sehwag shares priceless advice with Abhishek Sharma
During a chat with Abhishek on Sony Sports, cricketer-turned-commentator Sehwag advised him not to miss out on converting his starts into a century whenever he reaches 70. Sehwag revealed that this advice was given to him by Sunil Gavaskar.
“Many, many congratulations, and I would say whenever you reach seventy, don’t miss out on converting it into a hundred. Because this is something Sunil Gavaskar once told me – when you retire, you’ll think back about those innings where you got out on 70 or 80,” he said.
“If only I had converted those, I might have ended up with so many more centuries in my career. These opportunities don’t come again and again. When you’re batting well, on the day that it’s your day, try to finish unbeaten – that’s always better. Keep that in mind,” he added.
After his half-century against Pakistan, Abhishek has become the leading run-scorer of Asia Cup 2025 with 173 runs in four games. The Suryakumar Yadav-led side now hold the top spot in Super Four standings with two points and a superior Net Run Rate.
The Men in Blue will face Bangladesh in their next clash in the Super Four round of Asia Cup 2025. The encounter is scheduled to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 24. With four consecutive victories, India are the only unbeaten team in Asia Cup 2025 so far.
