Shreyas Iyer recently led India A in the unofficial 1st test against Australia A.

Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is likely to miss the upcoming test series between Indian Cricket Team and West Indies Cricket Team. According to reports in News24 and Indian Express, the right-handed batsman doesn’t want to play test cricket due to his back injury and wants to focus only on white-ball cricket.

Recently, Iyer led India A in the unofficial first test against Australia A, which ended in a draw. But surprisingly, left the captaincy of the team ahead of the second unofficial test and returned to his home in Mumbai.

The reports claimed that Iyer wrote a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stating that he will be taking a break from test cricket for some time due to stiffness in back and fatigue issues. He also informed selectors that his body currently cannot take the toll of playing test cricket. After his exit, Dhruv Jurel was named the skipper of India A.

Iyer was not part of the previous test series against England and was also overlooked for the Asia Cup 2025. His snub from the squad became a talk of the town in the Indian cricket fraternity. He last played a test match for India in February 2024 against England.

The right-handed batsman was highly expected to be picked for the West Indies series, especially after being named as the skipper for India A for the unofficial test series against Australia A.

Iyer last played for India in March during ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With 243 runs in five games, he was the leading run-scorer for India and played a crucial role in the team’s journey to the trophy.
