SL vs IND 2024: Most runs, most wickets after 3rd T20I, Pallekele

India whitewashed hosts Sri Lanka 3-0 in the three match T20I SL vs IND series.

Sri Lanka spinners bowled beautifully as they restricted the Indian cricket team to 137/9 in 20 overs in the final match of the three-match T20I series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on July 30.

After being asked to bat first, India vice-captain Shubman Gill plated a gritty knock of 39 runs in 37 balls on a pitch that offered huge turn and had variable bounce. Middle-order batters Riyan Parag (26) and Washington Sundar (25) valuable contribution helped the visitors to go past the 130-run mark.

While chasing 138 runs, Sri Lanka openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis scored 26 and 43 respectively. Middle-order batter Kusal Perera also contributed 46 off 34 balls.

However, a huge twist came when Rinku Singh came into the attack to bowl the 19th over of the Lanka’s innings. Rinku gave away just three runs in his over and took crucial wickets, which left hosts to chase six runs in the final over.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav introduced himself to bowl spin in the 20th over on a wicket which was assisting spinners. Surya conceded five runs and took two wickets and the match went into the super over.

Sri Lanka managed to score just two runs in the super over, including one wide, before Washington Sundar took two wickets. While chasing, skipper India skipper Suryakumar Yadav slammed a boundary on the very first delivery of the super over as the visitors win the thrilling final match of the three-match T20I series.

With this victory, visitors India whitewashed hosts Sri Lanka in the three-match T20I series 3-0. This also marks the first T20I series win under newly appointed Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir. Both nations will now face each other in the three-match ODI series starting from August 2.

SL vs IND 2024: Most Runs

Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka, who scored 137 runs in the series, ended up being highest run-scorer of the series. His teammate Kusal Perera finished second with 119 runs, whereas Kusal Mendis is slotted third with 98 runs.

Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav finished fourth with 92 runs, while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal finished fifth with 80 runs.

India’s leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi was the leading wicket-taker in the SL vs IND three-match T20I series. The youngster bagged six wickets at an economy of 10.54.

Sri Lanka speedster Matheesha Pathirana finished second with five wickets. Arshdeep Singh finished third with four wickets to his name in two matches.

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel bagged four wickets in two outings and finished fourth, whereas Sri Lanka’s Maheesh Theekshana ended up at the fifth spot with four scalps.
