Sri Lanka add Janith Liyanage to their squad for Asia Cup 2025

Sri Lanka have increased squad size to 17 players with the addition of Janith Liyanage.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Team have made a massive change to their squad for the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has added seam bowling all-rounder Janith Liyanage to their squad for the tournament. With the addition of Liyanage, Sri Lanka have increased their squad size to 17 members in the tournament.
Janith Liyanage has played three T20I games for Sri Lanka so far, scoring 28 runs. He last played a T20I match against India in February 2022 and has also played 28 ODIs for the team.
The 30-year-old was not part of the recent T20I series against Zimbabwe. However, he played in two ODI games, scoring unbeaten 70* and 19* runs in both matches and claiming one wicket in the series.
Charith Asalanka will be leading Sri Lanka in Asia Cup 2025, where they are placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. They will play their opening game against Bangladesh on September 13 at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
Later, they will clash with Hong Kong on September 15 in Dubai and Afghanistan on September 18 in Abu Dhabi. Notably, when the Asia Cup was last played in the T20I format in 2022, Sri Lanka won the trophy by defeating Pakistan in the final.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka completed a 3-0 whitewash in their recent T20I series against Zimbabwe. They grabbed pleasing victories in all three games by four wickets, five wickets, and eight wickets respectively.
Asia Cup 2025 commenced on September 9 in the UAE with Afghanistan and Hong Kong playing the tournament opener at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.
