Here we take a look at the top five biggest all-cash trade deals ever in the history of IPL.

All 10 Indian Premier League franchises have announced their retention list on 26th November. Apart from KKR, most of the teams have maintained their core group for the upcoming season in 2024. Other than the retention and release list, there was one more hot topic as Mumbai Indians completed a historical all-cash trade deal of Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans. With so much money involved, this became one of the costliest trade deals in the league’s history.

Hardik Pandya represented Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2022 and 2023 and led his team to two successive finals. He also won the title in the 2022. Apart from Hardik Pandya, there was one more trade done and this became the costliest deal in the Indian Premier League history. There have been a few more deals done before with big-money involvement. Let’s have a look at the Top 5 biggest trade deals done in the Indian Premier League.

Here are the top five biggest trade deals in the history of IPL:

5. Ravi Ashwin from PBKS to DC for 7.6 crores (Before IPL 2020):

Punjab Kings paid 7.60 crore rupees to buy Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL mega-auction 2018. Punjab also announced him as their new skipper but he couldn’t continue more than two years as the PBKS decided to trade Ravi Ashwin before the 2020 season and the off-spinner joined Delhi Capitals. Ashwin took 25 wickets in 28 games for Punjab Kings and also failed to lead his side to the playoffs.

4. Lockie Ferguson from GT to KKR for 10 crores (Before IPL 2023):

Gujarat Titans spent 10 crore rupees on Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson in the IPL mega-auction 2022. Ferguson was doing a brilliant job for Kolkata Knight Riders before joining GT. His association with Titans lasted for only one season as the franchise traded the Kiwi pacer before the 2023 season in all-cash deal. Lockie Ferguson played 13 games for Gujarat Titans in 2022 and picked up 12 wickets for his franchise.

3. Shardul Thakur from DC to KKR for 10.75 crores (Before IPL 2023):

After leaving Chennai Super Kings, all-rounder Shardul Thakur is yet to find a permanent place in the Indian Premier League. Shardul Thakur was bought by Delhi Capitals for 10.75 crore rupees during IPL 2022 auction, but just after one season, he was traded to Kolkata Knight Riders in all-cash deal before the last season. Shardul’s name will go under the hammer once again as KKR have also released the all-rounder after only one season. He played 14 games for DC while 11 for KKR in two previous seasons.

2. Hardik Pandya from GT to MI for 15 crores (Before IPL 2024):

This is probably the biggest deal Mumbai Indians have struck in the Indian Premier League. Good or bad maybe a debate, but Hardik Pandya after taking Gujarat Titans to IPL finals twice in 2022 and 2023, will now once again represent his old franchise Mumbai Indians. Gujarat Titans spent 15 crores on Hardik Pandya to pick him in the draft before the mega-auction in 2022 and after two seasons, Mumbai Indians have successfully traded in the all-rounder in an all-cash deal.

1. Cameron Green from MI to RCB for 17.50 crores (Before IPL 2024):

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has become the costliest deal through the trading window in the Indian Premier League. MI spent a heavy amount on Green and bought him for 17.50 crore rupees in the 2023 auction took place last year in Kochi. Green did a magnificent job for the team as well but to accommodate funds for the Hardik Pandya deal, Mumbai decided to trade Cameron Green in an all-cash deal to Royal Challengers Bangalore.
