Two Australian stars were the most expensive players of the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai.
IPL 2024 auction got underway at 1:30 p.m. in Dubai, and all ten IPL franchises were looking to sign some big and important names at the event. A number of teams got what they were looking for. That is why this event has broken all the previous auction records in history.
For the very first time, two players crossed the 20-crore mark at an IPL auction. Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins went past Sam Curran’s 18.5 crores figure. In this article, we will talk about the top five costliest buys at the IPL 2024 auction that broken many records.

5. Alzarri Joseph (11.5 Crore) :
RCB released a number of bowlers ahead of the auction, and they were keen to have some good bowling options at the auction. Hence, they went after a few bowlers in the event. However, they ended up having West Indian pacer Alzarri Joseph for a price of INR 11.5 crore. Well, only time will tell if they made a good decision or not.
4. Harshal Patel (11.75 Crore) :
Indian medium-pacer Harshal Patel, who was part of RCB, was released by the franchise ahead of IPL 2024 auction. He was with the franchise for INR 10 crore per season for two seasons. Well, there were not many expectations, but Harshal fetched a lot of value for him. PBKS signed him for a price of INR 11.75 crore, making him one of the costliest players at IPL 2024 auction, and also the most expensive Indian player of the auction.
3. Daryl Mitchell (14 Crore) :
Kiwi all-rounder Daryl Mitchell also registered after going unsold at the last season’s auction. He also fetched a huge amount. Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings went hard for him. In the end, CSK won the bidding war and signed the all-rounder for a price of INR 14 crores. Notably, Mitchell struck two hundreds against India in the recently concluded ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
2. Pat Cummins (20.5 Crore) :
Pat Cummins withdrew from IPL 2023 and made his comeback in the league. He featured in the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore and went on to fetch more than ten times his base value. Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired Australian captain for a price of INR 20.5 crore, which made him the second-most expensive player at IPL 2024 auction. In the auction, he became first ever player to breach the 20-crore mark.
1. Mitchell Starc (24.75 Crore) :
After making his IPL debut in 2014, Mitchell Starc played two seasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 27 matches, he took 34 wickets and hasn’t played since then. But he made his IPL return in a grand manner. A number of franchises wanted him on their side. In the end, Starc went to Kolkata Knight Riders for a price of INR 24.75 crore, becoming the most expensive player ever in the history of the league.
