South African opener Dean Elgar scored his 14th test ton in a magnificent batting display.

Dean Elgar is playing penultimate game of his international career and it seems like he is enjoying every moment of it. Elgar brought up his 14th test ton in an impressive batting display at Supersport Park in Centurion. Elgar frustrated the Indian bowling line-up with his gutsy knock laced with magnificent strike rotation and a few decent partnerships on day 2.

Social media also appreciated the efforts put on by the South African left-hander, who is also taking charge as captain in the absence of Temba Bavuma. Temba Bavuma had to limp off the field due to a hamstring injury he sustained while chasing a ball to the boundary. Dean Elgar is serving as vice-captain of South Africa for the two-match test series against India.

Elgar packs a punch!

Dean Elgar smashed 19 boundaries on his way to bring up his 14th test ton in just 140 deliveries. On couse, Elgar also became first ever South African batsman to hit a century against India in home tests in last nine years. Elgar also became second South African batsman after Herschelle Gibbs to hit centuries in all seven test venues in across the country.

Here’s how twitter reacted to Dean Elgar’s gritty century:

Dean Elgar frustrated Indian bowlers after losing his opening partner Aiden Markram early in the innings. Elgar went on to add 93 runs for the second wicket along with Tony de Zorzi, who scored 28 runs. Elgar never looked out of control during his entire innings and he got runs with ease against Indian bowlers. He took on debutant Prasidh Krishna and smashed a few boundaries in his spell.

This is Dean Elgar’s 150th test innings and so far he has scored 37 fifty scores in his career. He has one more test left to play at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg and will bid adieu to his glorious test career. The then captain, Dean Elgar played a massive role in South Africa’s series win against India when last time they hosted for a test series in 2021/22.
