Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) thrashed Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2025.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) booked their berth in the final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as they beat Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets. The match between the two teams took place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
RCB won the toss and opted to field first, and they were spot on the ball. PBKS had a poor batting performance as pacers Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Yash Dayal troubled the batsmen with the ball.
The Shreyas Iyer-led side lost four wickets in the powerplay and, after that, couldn’t recover from that. Marcus Stoinis (26) looked good with the bat and played a handy knock, but he was the victim of Suyash Sharma, who bagged three wickets. Based on a brilliant bowling effort, RCB bundled out PBKS for 101 inside 15 overs.
Chasing the target, RCB lost Virat Kohli (12) early. But Phil Salt (56*) played a blinder and powered his team to the win. Mayank Agarwal (19) and Rajat Patidar (15*) played vital hands as they chased the target with eight wickets in hand and ten overs.
This is the first time since IPL 2016 that RCB has qualified for the final. Overall, this is the fourth time the Rajat Patidar-led side has made it to the finals after 2009, 2011, and 2016.
RCB will now have to wait till 1st June to find out who will be competing with them in the final. The Eliminator will take place between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) tomorrow, and the winner of the clash will face PBKS in Qualifier 2.
