India's tour of West Indies 2023
Virat Kohli surpasses Jacques Kallis to become fifth highest run-scorer in international cricket
Virat Kohli scored his 30th Test Fifty in the 2nd Test vs West Indies in Trinidad.
Day 1 of the ongoing second test between India and the West Indies ended in favor of the visitors after Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja pulled things back in the third session to see the day off. India lost four crucial wickets in the second session after lunch, with some brilliant bowling from the West Indian bowlers. But both Indian batters added an unbeaten 106 runs in 33.2 overs to end the third session without a wicket.
At the stumps on Day 1, Team India are at 288/4, with Virat Kohli scoring 87 not out from 161 balls with 8 boundaries, while Jadeja is unbeaten on 36, including four fours. The day started with the second consecutive hundred-run stand between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both openers scored 139 runs for the first wicket. Jason Holder dismissed Jaiswal for 57 runs just after lunch.
Virat Kohli goes past Jacques Kallis to become the fifth-leading scorer in International cricket.
The Indian captain was looking for a big score but got out to a magical bowl from Jomel Warrican. Before getting out, Rohit scored 80 runs. Shubman Gill (10) and Ajinkya Rahane were the two batters who got out cheaply. India lost all four wickets in the second session on the first day. Virat Kohli took 20 odd balls to open his account with a boundary on the offside.
Meanwhile, when Virat scored his 74th run in his innings, he went past the former South African superstar Jacques Kallis to become the fifth-highest run-scorer in international cricket. Virat Kohli has now reached 25548 runs in 500 games across formats at an average of 53.67, with 75 centuries and 132 half-centuries. Kallis retired with 519 games and scored 25534 runs, at 49.14, including 62 centuries and 149 half-centuries.
Virat is only behind Sachin Tendulkar (34357 runs), Kumar Sangakkara (28016 runs), Ricky Ponting (27483 runs), and Mahela Jayawardene (25957 runs). Notably, the former Indian captain has the best average for a player over 10,000 international runs. Now has scored more runs than him after playing 500 games. However, every Indian fan will be hoping he can convert his start into a big one and score a century on the second day in Trinidad.
