Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag hopes Virat and Rohit will win the World Cup 2023.

That iconic moment of 2011, when Sachin Tendulkar was carried on shoulders by Indian players after India’s 2nd ever World Cup win, is etched in everyone’s memory. 2011 was Sachin’s sixth attempt at cricket's most prestigious battle. Everyone was emotional to bid their favourite son a winning farewell from World Cup cricket. Team India will be heading into World Cup 2023 in India to replicate the same performance.

Similarly, 2011 World Cup opener Virender Sehwag has made a huge statement for Virat Kohli. Sehwag is hoping for a Sachin Tendulkar-like farewell to Virat Kohli if India manages to lift their third-ever World Cup title. The former Indian opener has said that Virat Kohli has done a lot for Indian team, and he should be getting a similar reception as fellow players carry him on their shoulders. Virat Kohli was also part of 2011 World Cup squad.

Sehwag wants Tendulkar-like farewell for Virat

Virat Kohli is currently 35 years old, and 2023 World Cup will probably be his last in his career. Virender Sehwag said, “Cheeku (Virat) didn’t score a single century in the 2019 World Cup; this year, I hope he scores many hundreds and ends up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. Then, I want him to be carried on the shoulders and get a round of the ground.” Virat Kohli has only two centuries in his 26-games World Cup career.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has also said that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma deserve to win World Cup. Sehwag added, “These two (Rohit and Virat) senior players deserve to win the World Cup. Rohit Sharma was so close to getting picked for the 2011 World Cup but missed out. Later, he became the Badhshah of ODIs; he deserves to win a World Cup trophy because he is a fantastic player."

Rohit Sharma had a wonderful campaign in 2019 World Cup. He ended up scoring five centuries in a single World Cup. He also ended up being the leading runs scorer in the tournament, with 648 runs in 10 innings. India will be playing their opening league game against Australia at Chepauk Stadium on October 8th. World Cup 2023 will commence on October 5, with defending champions England taking on New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
