Watch: Shreyas Iyer gets deceived by Kagiso Rabada's low bounce as the bowler strikes early after lunch
Indian middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer scored 31 runs in 50 balls.
South Africa struck early once again on the first day of the first test match at Supersport Park in Centurion. Right-arm quick Kagiso Rabada got the wicket of Shreyas Iyer right after lunch and put his side in a commanding position. Iyer lost his wicket in the first over of the second session. Indian batting line-up struggled against South African pace attack in overcast Centurion conditions.
India lost three wickets in the first session as captain Rohit Sharma (5), Shubman Gill (2) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (17) couldn’t put a challenge against South African pace bowlers. Proteas skipper Temba Bavuma made the right call at the toss to bowl first. South Africa have a fiery pace attack consisting of Gerald Coetzee, Marco Jansen, Kagiso Rabada, and debutant Nandre Burger.
Rabada sends Shreyas Iyer packing
Shreyas Iyer had a terrific first session. Iyer and Virat Kohli both went on to add 78 runs for the 4th wicket and when India were looking set to shift gears, Kagiso Rabada’s one fuller length delivery deceived Indian middle-order batter. Rabada targeted Iyer’s stump while the ball kept very low and went on to disturb the woodwork behind Iyer.
Shreyas Iyer played a magnificent cover drive off Rabada which was magnificently fielded by Keegan Peterson. This shot was enough to indicate the kind of confidence Iyer was getting after spending every minute on the wicket. Iyer managed to score 31 runs in 50 balls which included 3 fours and a six in the first innings. Iyer also made a bit of a change in his stance to keep short-ball tactics out of play against himself.

Kagiso Rabada also got captain Rohit Sharma out caught at fine leg by debutant Nandre Burger. Rohit was attempting to play a pull shot against Rabada. Virat Kohli also became Rabada’s victim as he was trying to push a ball on the 6th stump line. Half of Indian side have gone back to the pavilion. Debutant Nandre Burger picked up two wickets, Shubman Gill was his first and Yashavi Jaiswal Jaiswal was his second test wicket.
