Robin Minz considers former Indian captain MS Dhoni as his idol.

Gujarat Titans splurged INR 3.60 crores on Jharkhand’s wicket-keeper-batter Robin Minz in the recent IPL 2024 auction which is underway in Dubai on December 19, 2023. The 21-year-old Minz is a huge MS Dhoni fan, as he also hails from Jharkhand.

Minz had put his base price at INR 20 lakhs and his name came up in IPL 2024 auction in the uncapped wicket-keepers accelerated set. Chennai Super Kings started the bidding for him and Mumbai Indians jumped in as well. The two huge franchises took the amount to over INR 1 crore. Then GT and SRH took over and Minz was finally bought by Gujarat Titans for INR 3.60 crores.

Who is Robin Minz?

Robin Minz hails from Gumla, in the Namkum area in Jharkhand, belongs to the tribal community there. He is yet to play in any Ranji Trophy tournament but has represented Jharkhand team in under-19 and under-25. Mumbai Indians were impressed by his performance and selected him for IPL.

Mumbai Indians franchise was heavily impressed with Minz’s performance and selected him for IPL training in 2023. In his interview given to News 18, Robin said that, “he has to leave for England in the first week of July for international-level training.

He considers MS Dhoni as his idol and he has even received tips from the great man on how to move with agility and quickness behind the wicket and how to show quick reflexes while batting.

Robin has only studied till 10th standard and his father is currently working as a guard at Birsa Munda Airport, after retiring from Army. Robin also has two sisters.

Robin started playing cricket at the age of 8. He is a left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman. He has improved his game under the supervision of Chanchal Bhattacharya, SP Gautam, and Asif Haq at Sonnet Cricket Club in Ranchi.

Robin said that last year he was called for trials by Lucknow SuperGiants, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders.
