Does EA Sports FC have real club licensing?

EA is releasing a brand-new soccer franchise called EA Sports FC, with FIFA 23 serving as the franchise's final instalment with FIFA. No, this is not a wind-up; FIFA 23 is indeed the last game in the series. Even though its replacement won't arrive until late in 2023, EA has already disclosed information on some of its licences. What will this new beginning entail for Creation Centre, Women's Squads, Ultimate Team, and other game features? Here, in your EA Sports FC guide, we take a speculative look.

The licencing arrangement between EA and FIFA, which governs the sport of football, expires following the 2022 World Cup, which is held in Qatar from November 21 to December 18, 2022. According to persistent claims, FIFA sought $1 billion spread over four years to extend the licence. EA believes that such funds would be better used to improve gameplay and other functions. So there was a secession. It marks the conclusion of a collaboration that started in 1993 with FIFA International Soccer for the Mega Drive.

David Jackson, vice president of EA Sports, is adamant that longtime fans won't suffer from the change. “In terms of things that they'll miss, players will notice only two things: The name and a World Cup piece of content every four years,” he tells the BBC. “Outside of that, very little will change about the things they know and love about the current FIFA products.”

According to EA, EA Sports FC will include more than 30 leagues and more than 700 teams. At least 19,000 players and 100 stadiums will participate. The Champions League, the Premier League (England), the Bundesliga (Germany), and LaLiga are among the current confirmed competitions (Spain).

Despite the far-off release date, eight different teams have confirmed their participation in EA Sports FC. Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Toronto FC, and Austin FC have all tweeted about their commitment to the series and their expectation that additional information will be released in July 2023.
