10 Interesting Premier League 2017-18 stats you probably didn't know about

The Premier League concluded with Manchester City coming out as standout champions after the 38 long and hard matchdays. The Citizens completely dominated the Premier League this year and the gap between the first and the second speaks volumes about the dominance that they asserted in the league.

Records were shattered all over the place. So, here are 10 of the most interesting stats that summed up the 2017/18 season.

10. Two players scoring over 30 goals in a season

Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane were the frontrunners for this year’s Golden Boot. Needless to say, it was one of the most pulsating finishes between the two of them. Salah netted 32 goals and Harry Kane came very close with 30. This was the first time that it had happened since the 1993-1994 season where Andy Cole (Newcastle Unuted) and Alan Shearer (Blackburn Rovers) finished on 34 and 31 goals respectively.

9. Manchester City trailed for just 153 minutes!

Pep Guardiola’s City completely took the league by storm this season and although the entire spotlight was on how beautifully their attack was orchestrated, their defence was silently going about doing their job nice and tidy. Having conceded just 27 goals this season, City were the team with the best back four. Ederson finished second to David de Gea in the Golden Glove race and their defence has been paramount this season as the stat shows.

8. Salah scored against everyone..almost

The Egyptian failed to score against Swansea and arch-rivals Manchester United

Mohamed Salah created a record when he scored against 17 different teams this season. The Egyptian, who netted 32 goals, scored against almost all clubs except for Manchester United and Swansea City. By doing so, he became the first player to do that in a season.

7. Wenger broke a lot of hearts and a couple of records along with it

Departing Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger set the record for most seasons managed by a single manager at a club, with 22.

A monumental feat in itself, the Frenchmen then broke former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson's record ti become the manager with the most number of Premier League matches under his belt. Wenger has managed in 828 matches in the English top flight.

After Arsenal recorded a 1-0 victory at Huddersfield, Wenger again broke Ferguson's record of winning at 47 different venues as the Ex-Arsenal boss now has won at 48 different stadiums as a Premier League manager.

6. It was not all sunshine and roses for Crystal Palace in the beginning

Crystal Palace's ex-manager, Frank de Boer, was sacked just four games into the job as the club lost all of their first four games and what cost him his job was the fact that they failed to score in any of those games. De Boer now holds the record for the shortest stint as a Premier League manager.

5. The First ever Playmaker award

The Playmaker AWARD was introduced in the Premier League this year with the award going to the player who has gotten the most assists in the season. Kevin de Bruyne was one of the best players this season both on and off the ball. The City midfield dominated the assists charts with the top three positions, occupied by City players. De Bruyne picked up the award for his 16 assists, closely followed by Leroy Sane (15), David Silva and Raheem Sterling in third place with (11).

4. Managerial Merry-Go-Round

Sam Allardyce, David Moyes, Roy Hodgson &=and Alan Pardew have been part of this managerial merry-go-round for the past decade. The four managers would keep alternating between the bottom of the table clubs in a bid to keep them up. Allardyce broke a record this time when he was appointed at Everton. He became the only manager to have managed seven Premier League clubs (Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham United, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and Everton).

3. First ever Spaniard to win the Premier League title

What a heroic way of lifting the EPL trophy!

Guardiola became the first ever Spaniard to come conquer the Premier League. His Citizens completely revolutionised the league this season and a lot of that is due to Guardiola’s ability to get the best out of every player and some shrewd business in the transfer market.

2. All the promoted teams survived completely

All the three promoted sides, Brighton and Hove Albion, Huddersfield and Newcastle managed to survive the drop this season. Huddersfield, who were not given even a small chance to survive by the pundits when the season began, proved everyone wrong thanks to their manager, David Wagner. Huddersfield finished 16th four points above 18th placed Swansea. Newcastle under Rafa Benitez and Hughton’s Brighton cruised to safety.

This is only the third time in the Premier League that all three promoted teams have survived the drop.

Manchester City-  Rewriting the records

Manchester City have been shattering the previous records set by various teams. This season, City were on another level when you compare them to the other teams in the league. They broken and set new records in the following categories:

These records are a testament to the kind of work that Guardiola has done to make this City side an almost unbeatable side one the Premier League.

The 2017/18 season was not as enthralling as another season might’ve been at the top, but the race for top four and the relegation battle went down to the wire. The Premier League has always been full of surprises and this time around no-one expected City to blitz to the title and win it by a 19-point margin. With teams already equipping themselves for next the next campaign, we can definitely expect to see a big fight for the title.
