Top 10 players missing from Brazil’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad
Many stars were left behind for the Qatar tournament
Brazil has recently announced their squad for World Cup 2022. They look really threatening to reclaim their lost throne and take the trophy home after waiting for two decades. Many teams have been struck with an injury crisis. But the Brazilian team is one of few teams without any major injury scare. Speaking of their squad, their team is filled with an excellent blend of youth and experience. With the likes of Neymar, Vinicius, and Rodryo in the attack, their team looks one of the hot favourites to win the competition.
However, there have been some unlucky players who have been unfortunate to make it due to different reasons. With too many quality players in the Brazilian pool. It was a difficult job for Tite to put some big names out of the squad. Here today we have come with the summarisation of quality players that did not make it to the list of 26-man squad for Brazil in Qatar World Cup 2022.
10. Gabriel Barbosa (Flamengo)
Gabigol's omission from Brazil is one of the biggest highlights considering the lack of lethal strikers in the Brazilian lineup. The 26 years old striker has been in good form lately. He has a total contribution of 10 goals and assists in his 12 games. Barbosa's dream of representing Brazil in the World Cup is now stalled and will have to wait for four more years.
9. Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)
After establishing one of the solid defenders in Europe this season, Gabriel Magalhaes omission is very hard to swallow. He has been out of the Brazil team in recent outings as well. And once again has been kept out of the Brazil 26 men squad for the World Cup in Qatar. This season, Magalhaes' form and game reading ability has been top-class and key behind Arsenal's success. Arsenal’s defensive star is yet to make his debut with Brazil which clearly shows the level of competition in his national side with the likes of Eder Militao, Marquinhos etc.
8. Emerson Royal (Tottenham Hotspurs)
Tottenham star Emerson Royal was seen last in Brazilian colours in the Final of Copa America in 2021. Despite his good performance with the Tottenham Hotspurs in defensive front this season, his omission in full-back is questionable considering Dani Alves is picked above him. The 22 years old full back has only 7 appearances for his national side Brazil.
7. Douglas Luiz (Aston VIlla)
Douglas Luiz has been heart and soul of the Villa midfield in recent seasons and his presence in the Brazilian midfield could have provided the needed solidity in the middle of the park. Aston Villa have relied heavily on the Brazilian midfielder and he has always provided them goods. The Villa midfielder last played in World Cup qualifiers in 2021. But with the heavy rush in the Brazilian Midfield, Casemiro and Fabinho are preferred by the manager in this World Cup in Qatar.
6. Andreas Pereira (Fullham)
Pereira is another midfielder to miss out on the plane for the Qatar World Cup 2022. The Brazilian midfielder has been very crucial for the Fulham side this season. He played as a playmaker for them and has been quite successful. Pereira played 14 games this season with 2 goals and 4 assists to his name. However, the ex-Manchester United player has only made one appearance for his National side Brazil in his entire career.
5. Renan Lodi (Atletico Madrid)
The LaLiga winner of season 20-21 has once again been omitted for the big tournament. Lodi's recent decline in form has lost him his ticket for Qatar. The Brazilian full back has played 16 games with his national side. Earlier this season Lodi was loaned to Nottingham Forest from Atletico Madrid due to his inconsistency on the field but still is fighting to find his best form.
4. Matheus Cunha (Atletico Madrid)
After the disappointing season so far with Atletico Madrid, Cunha's name was expected to not be included in the FIFA World Cup squad. His 16 appearances for the Spanish Giant in the current season have yet to yield a goal, and he has only contributed two assists. He has eight appearances for the national side with the last one coming against Ghana in September 2022. His all previous appearances have come qualifiers and friendlies and the Atletico star would now have to wait more to represent Brazil in the big tournament.
3. Philippe Coutinho (Aston Villa)
Coutinho once was a key player for the Brazilian setup but now is nowhere near to his old stature. His time has now hit the rock bottom as he is left out form 26 squad list. The Brazilian has 21 goals in his 68 appearances with his national side and was a key member of the last World Cup 2018 but tables have turned around.
2. Roger Ibanez (Roma)
Roger Ibanez has been phenomenal under Jose Mourinho and arguably the best Brazilian defender in the Italian league. The Brazilian star has played 14 games this season for Roma and could be a good addition to the already aged Brazilian defense front. Ibanez has played only a single game for his National side Brazil in his entire career of football and is one for the future.
1. Roberto Firmino (Liverpool)
The most shocking omission in this list is Bobby Firmino. Recently Firmino has regained his form in the Liverpool team with 6 goals and 3 assists in his total of 12 appearances with the club. In addition to his club stats, Firmino’s numbers with Brazil have been remarkable with 17 goals in 55 games. Finally, the Brazilian was part of the Copa America squad in big competition and his name could have been a real big addition attacking third.
