Some experienced names will be donning the national jerseys for the next few weeks in the quadrennial mega event.

The 2022 World Cup is the 22nd running edition of FIFA's and the world's most glorious football competition. This edition is iconic and emotional because it is the end of an era for many legendary players. Amongst these players, there are many who have garnered a great number of goals and assists. Experienced players with some of the most international appearances and youngsters who are in the early days of their national team career will take part in the World Cup.

10) Edinson Cavani - 113

The Uruguayan is one of the underrated strikers of our generation. Cavani has not only performed for his country but also at a club level. Edinson has scored 364 goals and has 73 assists in 622 games throughout his career. This is an impressive feat nonetheless Cavani has performed well for his country too.

Cavani first made his senior debut for Uruguay back in 2008. Ever since then he has scored 58 goals in 133 caps for Uruguay. The forward will look to further progress as Uruguay stand to be one of the dark horses in the World Cup.

9) Olivier Giroud - 117

Giroud is very famous for scoring the most extravagant goals. His technique is unmatched and one of the best in the world.The Frenchman has garnered 117 caps scoring 49 goals.

Many criticised Olivier Giroud for his bizarre stats at the 2018 World Cup. The AC Milan striker managed to play 13 matches in the 2018 World Cup without a single shot on goal. However, Olivier Giroud is extremely helpful because of his supportive play. Didier Deschamps is definitely looking to make use of this again as France looks to defend their title.

Neymar is quite a hated player at times. Arguably the best player in the world after Ronaldo and Messi, Neymar has achieved everything except the World Cup. However, Neymar Jr is already making his name as one of Brazil's most iconic legends.

The PSG superstar has already surpassed Ronaldo Nazario, Romario and many other legends. Neymar Jr has scored 75 goals in 121 appearances and is destined to become Brazil's top scorer. Brazil is the favourite alongside Argentina to win the 2022 World Cup. Neymar himself is having a wonderful season with PSG. The Brazilian has 15 goals and 12 assists in just 20 appearances.

7) Luis Suarez - 134

The only football player to have an entire nation hate him. Yes, that's right, Luis Suarez's most famous moment with Uruguay came back in the 2010 World Cup against Ghana. However, his performances and iconic moments speak for themselves. Luis Suarez is arguably the best striker of our generation. Suarez has won the Golden boot not once but twice during the Prime Messi - Ronaldo era.

The former Barcelona star has made quite a name for himself as an Uruguayan legend. Luis has scored 66 goals for Uruguay in 134 appearances. Suarez also has an excellent record in the World Cup as well. He has scored 7 goals in the past three World Cups.

6) Robert Lewandowski - 134

Lewandowski is among the elite strikers of today's generation like Benzema, Suarez and some others. Robert Lewandowski came close to winning the Ballon d'Or in 2020 but unfortunately, FIFA cancelled the event. Regardless of that Lewandowski has maintained his form.

Robert transferred to FC Barcelona from Bayern Munich. It will take some time for the Polish striker to make himself a Barcelona legend. Quite an unexpected name to pop up on this list. Not only is Vertonghen the only Belgian on this list, but he is also the most capped player in Belgium's history. Jan Vertonghen stands as the most capped Belgium player with 141 caps. He has had a rollercoaster of a career with Belgium.

Jan Vertonghen's most iconic moment with Belgium comes in the 2018 World Cup. Jan scored the first goal against Japan to enthral an iconic comeback. The defender will look to help Belgium retain their status as the World's Best team.

3) Luka Modric - 154

Many love Luka Modric because of his playing style and iconic performances. Modric has assisted many legendary goals and scored some as well. The Croatians are counting on the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner to achieve progress in the World Cup.

Croatia made it to the 2018 World Cup final in an unexpected turn of events. Unfortunately, France defeated them 4-1 and broke their dream. Modric on the other hand will play his last World Cup. The Real Madrid legend has amassed 154 appearances scoring 23 goals.

Messi has already declared that this is most likely his last World Cup. No doubt Lionel Messi is Argentina's greatest player ever. Messi has amassed 164 appearances scoring 90 goals. Argentina alongside Brazil is the favourite to win the World Cup this year.

1) Cristiano Ronaldo - 191

Who other than Ronaldo? The only man to rival Messi in football. The only man alongside Messi as the greatest player in the history of football. Despite his recent comments about Manchester United, nothing can take away what Ronaldo has achieved. Both at the club and at the international level, Ronaldo has been the best.

For Portugal, Cristiano has amassed a staggering 191 appearances scoring 117 goals. Portugal has had a weaker team in the past however they do look strong this year. The football community has witnessed it, only Cristiano Ronaldo can make an iconic comeback after struggling badly at the club level. It wouldn't be surprising if Ronaldo becomes the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup.
