The Argentine superstar has reached another milestone in his illustrious career.

With Monday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 victory against rival Marseille by Paris Saint-Germain, Lionel Messi now has a staggering 700 club goals in his professional career.

The Argentine legend accomplished this accomplishment when he scored in the 29th minute of PSG’s league encounter against Marseille to secure its position atop the league standings as Kylian Mbappe switched to providing.

Messi played for the Spanish powerhouse Barcelona for 15 years before making the surprising and heartbreaking switch to the French team PSG.

The talisman from Argentina joined PSG in August 2021 on a free transfer. Since then, he has played 62 times for the current Ligue 1 leader, including the game against Marseille, and has scored 28 goals.

In various competitions, Messi, 35, wore the Barcelona jersey 778 times and scored an astounding 672 goals for the Blaugrana. He made his Barca debut in 2006 against Espanyol and was the league’s youngest player at the time; Ansu Fati still holds that record.

In contrast, Ronaldo, Messi’s adversary, has scored 709 goals at the club level across all competitions, including a hat-trick for Al-Nassr against Damac in the Saudi Pro League.

The FIFA Best Player of the Year award and the Ballon d’Or are favourites for the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion. The 35-year-old’s contract with PSG ends at the conclusion of the current campaign, but he has not yet renewed it.

If the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner chooses not to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 giants, it is also believed that Barcelona may be an alternative.
