Ratings: Liston Colaco shines as ATK Mohun Bagan thump Gokulam Kerala
The Mariners' Hugo Boumous registered four goal contributions in the game.
ATK Mohun Bagan began their Hero Super Cup campaign in sensational fashion, with a dominant 5-1 win over Gokulam Kerala on Monday. Liston Colaco put them in a comfortable position with two excellent long-range strikes before the half-hour mark, followed by Hugo Boumous' goal just before half time.
Manvir Singh scored the fourth early in the second half, before Sergio Mendigutxia scored a consolation in the 72d minute. Kiyan Nassiri scored the final goal of the game in fortunate fashion in added time, helping his side get a big win.
Here are the player ratings for the game.
ATK Mohun Bagan
Arsh Anwer – 6.0
Anwer made a few decent saves, but was unable to deny Gokulam Kerala their consolation goal through Mendigutxia. Played a key role in setting up Kiyan’s late goal.
Asish Rai – 7.5
Coming off an impressive ISL season, Rai continued his great form here. He was extremely proactive on the right, cutting out a lot of Gokulam Kerala’s attacks. Set up Liston’s second with an excellent long ball and hit the post late on with a nice effort.
Pritam Kotal – 6.5
Kotal helped maintain composure in the ATK Mohun Bagan backline, not allowing Gokulam Kerala’s forwards to cause them much trouble, and reading the game well to make some clutch clearances.
Slavko Damjanovic – 6.0
Damjanovic maintained a solid defensive line with Kotal, restricting Gokulam Kerala to creating half-chances in most part of the game. Lost a duel against hefty Bouba Aminou before the opposition's only goal.
Subhasish Bose – 5.5
Bose was quite proactive on both halves of the pitch. Made some important tackles and was generally reliable, before losing the mark of Mendigutxia for his goal.
Carl McHugh – 6.5
McHugh shielded the ATK Mohun Bagan backline strongly and maintained a sturdy midfield line too. He recovered possession with crunch challenges and moved the ball forward well.
Federico Gallego – 7.0
Gallego had a lot of fun in a free midfield role, moving all over the central areas and creating some big chances with a few exquisite final-third passes. Seemed to have it too easy at times.
Liston Colaco – 9.0
Unlike the ISL season, almost everything went in Liston’s way against Gokulam Kerala. He opened the scoring with a beautiful long-range curler before doubling the lead with another amazing long-range shot. Back to his irresistible groove!
Kiyan Nassiri – 8.0
Nassiri floated in that deeper, False No.9 role admirably and helped drag a lot of defenders out of their position. He delivered some really clever defence-splitting passes, including a great through ball for Boumous’ goal. Capped off a great fortunate goal!
Hugo Boumous – 9.0
Boumous annoyed Gokulam Kerala with his crisp movement and passing. He scored ATK Mohun Bagan’s third goal with a well-spotted run and sleek finish past the goalkeeper. In the second half, he burst past Abdul Hakku to smartly set up Manvir Singh’s strike. Oozed with confidence and finished the game with four goal contributions – a brace and two assists!
Manvir Singh – 7.0
Manvir helped use his physicality to aid ATK Mohun Bagan’s build-up play and win key duels. Made use of his first big chance, powerfully slotting home his side’s fourth goal with a thunderous finish.
Substitutes
Tiri – 6.5
Tiri made his first appearance of the season and looked quite sharp at the back.
Lalrinliana Hnamte – 6.0
Hnamte helped ATK Mohun Bagan move things around well and added some necessary energy towards the end of the game.
Puitea – 6.0
Puitea’s distribution was pretty good in his cameo, but he was occasionally a bit too aggressive.
Dimitri Petratos – N/A
Petratos moved the ball around excellently and created a big chance for Rai towards the end of the game.
Sumit Rathi – N/A
Got some much-needed minutes under his belt towards the end.
Gokulam Kerala
Shibin Raj Kunniyil – 4.0
Shibin's movement and positioning were questionable all game long and it cost him in the end. Left in no-mans land for Colaco’s second and the final goal he conceded, which saw a ricochet effort from the defender hit Nassiri’s face and make its way into the net.
Subhankar Adhikari – 4.5
Adhikari struggled to keep up with the menacing Liston Colaco, losing mark of him multiple times. Couldn’t stop either of his strikes and struggled on the right, being taken off at half-time.
Abdul Hakku – 6.0
Hakku was aggressive and assertive with his challenges, using his physicality and game-reading sense to make some key clearances. However, he was overzealous at times and got completely outwitted ahead of Manvir’s goal.
Bouba Aminou – 7.0
Perhaps the least error-prone defender on the day and made some clutch clearances. Assisted his side’s only goal with a nice header.
Mohammed Jassim – 6.5
Jassim was really proactive in his left-back role and worked hard to limit ATK Mohun Bagan’s movement through his side. He was always in the right places to make key clearances but failed to mark Manvir for his strike.
Rahul Raju – 5.5
Raju was full of running in the midfield, but failed to really trouble the ATK Mohun Bagan midfielders in the central areas.
Omar Ramos – 5.0
Ramos was too overaggressive at times and failed to really protect his backline from ATK Mohun Bagan’s persistent swift breaks. Sent in some nice set-pieces, but had no control in midfield.
Farshad Noor – 4.0
Noor had a disappointing game. Neither did he create anything major nor was he able to test the goalkeeper with his shots.
Sourav K- 6.0
Sourav made some nice runs into the final third, but lacked the final product to create anything major.
Noufal P.N – 5.0
Noufal wasn’t really able to make a difference, being bullied by the ATK Mohun Bagan defenders and barely creating anything.
Sergio Mendigutxia – 7.0
Mendigutxia troubled ATK Mohun Bagan with his smart off-the-ball runs and got himself in some prominent areas with his movement. Scored his side’s only goal with an opportunistic finish.
Substitutes
Vikas Saini – 6.0
Full of running in the second half, but failed to be a major upgrade over Adhikari.
Sreekuttan VS – 6.0
The ex-Kerala Blasters winger delivered some troubling crosses into the final third.
Thahir Zaman – N/A
Couldn’t really make much of an impact after coming on.
Pawan Kumar – N/A
Kumar had a poor cameo, with his late clearance attempt hitting Kiyan’s face and resulting in yet another ATK Mohun Bagan goal.
Jobby Justin – N/A
Failed to provide much goal-scoring threat late on.
