Ratings: Bengaluru FC, Sreenidi Deccan share spoils in Hero Super Cup opener
A resilient performance by both teams saw the game end with one goal apiece.
The first match up of the 2023 Hero Super Cup came to an end, as an impressive Sreenidi Deccan held back Bengaluru FC to restrict them to a frustrating draw. The Blues took an early lead, and were starting to put a foothold on the game, before Sreenidi equalized to make it even-steven.
From there on, the I-League side dominated the game, and made a number of chances. Bengaluru tried their best, but couldn’t make any impact whatsoever, and as a result of which, they take home only a solitary point.
Here are the ratings from the game:
Bengaluru FC
Gurpreet Singh Sandhu - 7
Gurpreet was tested a lot by Sreenidi Deccan through their attacking threats, and he did whatever he could to help his team during set-pieces.
Bruno Ramires – 6.5
Bruno wasn’t metting the standards for such a demanding game, and he was caught out of position on quite a few occasions. The Brazilian however improved as the game progressed, and did the needful for coming home with a draw.
Sandesh Jhingan – 7.5
Jhingan was arguably Bengaluru FC’s best player today, and it was his incredible heroics in the backline that prevented Sreenidi from taking the lead. The India international also did an incredible job to keep David Castaneda quiet for the entirety of the game.
Parag Srivas - 7
Parag was constantly challenged by the likes of Phalguni Singh and Rosenberg Gabriel on the left flank, and there were a number of moments when his rigid and tough defending saved the day for Bengaluru FC.
Prabir Das – 6.5
Prabir didn’t have an ideal outing against Sreenidi Deccan, and he couldn’t make much of an impact both attackingly as well as defensively. The player was constantly exploited by Gabriel and Rilwan Hassan.
Suresh Singh Wangjam - 6
Suresh also had quite a mediocre performance, and was pretty much invisible in the middle of the park. He wasn’t up to the mark with his passing as well as his progressive plays.
Javi Hernandez - 8
Javi scored Bengaluru FC’s only goal tonight, and was the biggest lifeline, in what was otherwise a dead attacking performance by his side.
Rohit Kumar - 6
Rohit wasn’t very impressive in the midfield, and wasn’t given any chance by Sreenidi Deccan to impact the game. As a result of this poor display, the player was subbed off just 10 minutes into the second half.
Naorem Roshan Singh – 6.5
Roshan’s excellent dribbling and passing on the left flank set up Bengaluru’s first goal, but the player made a lot of heavy touches and misplaced quite a few passes as the game progressed. His contribution in the middle of the park was also very minimal.
Roy Krishna – 6.5
Roy Krishna had no shots on target and couldn’t enjoy any control over the game, that he does on any other day. The player’s quick reactions however facilitated the Blues’ first goal.
Sunil Chhetri - 6
The ever so impressive Sunil Chhetri unfortunately put on a much foreign performance than what is expected from the veteran. Sunil's contributions in the game were solemn, and the skipper made little to no threat to Sreenidi Deccan’s goal.
Substitutions
Namgyal Bhutia - 7
Namgyal did a much better job in the right flank after being subbed on for Prabir. He made some great offensive contributions in the latter half of the game.
Fanai - 7
Fanai's inclusion very much stabilized a scattered and out of proportion Bengaluru FC midfield. The player was very composed with his passing.
Pablo Perez – 6.5
Pablo didn’t impact the game as much as he would’ve desired, and the impact he wished on having unfortunately didn’t transpire.
Sivasakthi Narayanan – 6.5
Siva tried his very best, but couldn’t do enough to break a tight defensive line.
Leon Augustin – N/A
Leon came on very late into the game, and couldn’t make much of a difference.
Sreenidi Deccan FC
Aryan Niraj Lamba – 6.5
Aryan's poor collection of the ball led to Bengaluru FC’s goal, but the youngster showed great courage to not let that affect the rest of his game.
Arijit Bagui – 7.5
Arijit was solid in the right-back position, and kept Rohit Kumar at bay. His attacking contributions were also of tremendous help to his team.
Bijay Chhetri - 8
Bijay was awarded the Man of the match award for his resilient and volatile performance in the back. The centre-back kept Bengaluru FC’s star-studded attack quiet throughout the game. He was simply outstanding!
Stanislas Ankira - 8
Ankira also deserves a lot of credit for Sreenidi Deccan’s excellent defensive performance. The player made a lot of clearances and interceptions, and didn’t give Krishna even an inch to exploit.
Dinesh Singh – 7.5
Dinesh Singh was a bit off the mark at the start of the game, but grew in confidence as the game progressed. His defensive contributions were vital for Sreenidi Deccan’s success.
Rilwan Hassan - 8
Rilwan was absolutely handful for his team, and displayed an electrifying performance, that saw the player bully Bengaluru FC’s full-backs, who had no answers to the player's incredible passing and vision.
Faysal Shayesteh - 8
Faysal was industrious for Sreenidi Deccan today, and he also scored their equalizer. His dribbling as well as his top-notch vision was second to none on the pitch, and the player was a key component in that incredible Sreenidi midfield.
Muthu Mayakkannan – 7.5
Maya put on a superb performance today, and made some top-notch interceptions and clearances. He also made some incredible attacking plays, and was a key facilitator in their counter-attacks.
Rosenberg Gabriel - 8
Rosenberg put on a real shift on both the flanks of the field. The player was industrious on the sidelines, and made some great runs, added with his fantastic link-up play with Faysal and Castaneda.
Konsam Phalguni Singh – 7.5
Phalguni did his job to absolute perfection throughout the 90 minutes, and showcased great passing and skill with the ball. The player was a key cog in Sreenidi Deccan’s excellent attacking play.
David Castaneda – 6.5
Despite being Sreenidi Deccan’s main man this season, Castaneda didn’t have his best performance against Bengaluru FC. Despite doing really well in much of their build-up work and attacking progressions, Castaneda couldn’t really come up with a real scoring opportunity. He didn’t look very dangerous on the front.
Substitutes
Louis Ogana – N/A
Louis came on in the 86th minute, and didn’t have much of an impact.
Ramhlunchhunga – N/A
Chhunga also came on after the 80-minute mark, and had very little contributions other than an incredible run that could’ve posed a lot of danger to Bengaluru FC’s backline.
