Next Gen Cup 2023: Fixtures, results, standings & more
The competition will be be played between 17th and 26th May.
The Premier League Next Gen Cup is a part of the Premier League Youth Games Initiative and a result of the Premier League’s collaboration with the Indian Super League and South Africa’s Premier Soccer League.
The tournament is a gateway for young Indian footballers to compete against academy teams from renowned overseas clubs. Indian clubs gain invaluable experience by testing their skills against top-notch oppositions, and it creates a nurturing environment for talent development and helps in shaping the future of Indian football.
The competition first took place in 2020, where six teams took part, and Chelsea’s U-14 side emerged victorious. In the second edition of the competition in 2022, South African side Stellenbosch FC’s academy were crowned champions.
With the third edition of the competition about to begin from the 17th of May, here is everything you need to know about the 2023 Next Gen Cup.

Player Eligibility
Players born on or after January 1, 2002, will be eligible to participate in the competition.
Venue
The 2023 Next Gen Cup will be conducted at the Reliance Corporate Park in Mumbai between May 17 and May 26, 2023.
Format
The competition includes eight teams, who will be placed in two groups of four. Each team will play against all of their opponents in the group in a round robin format.
The top teams from each group will then play the final on the 26th of May.
The teams playing are going to be ranked on the basis of points. For a win, a team will get three points, one point for a draw, and none for a loss. At the end of all the games, if two top teams (in a group) are tied on points, then the following criteria are to be followed.
- Points in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goal difference in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goals scored in head-to-head matches among tied teams
- Goal difference in all group matches
- Goals scored in all group matches
- Penalty shoot-out if only two teams are tied and they met in the last round of the group
- Disciplinary points (yellow card = 1 point, red card as a result of two yellow cards = 3 points, direct red card = 3 points, yellow card followed by direct red card = 4 points)
