UEL 2022-22: Juventus vs Sevilla: Combined XI
The Old Lady set to face off against the mighty kings of the Europa League, Sevilla FC
From the very start of the 2022-23 season, the Europa League competition has invited more spectators than it usually does. If the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal FC weren't enough, big teams after being dropped off the UEFA Champions League group stages took part in the UEFA Europa League. Clubs such as AFC Ajax, Leverkusen, FC Barcelona, Sevilla, and Juventus got involved in UEL after the drop.
And as the stage is all set for the semi-finals of the Europa League, we now know why Jose Mourinho was actually fuming. Apart from AS Roma all other three semi-finalists are originally from the UCL group stages. Two of those sides take centre stage on Friday, May 12 (12:30 am IST) at the Allianz Stadium.
Let's have a close look at a combined XI of some of the best players of Juventus and Sevilla this season:
Formation: 4-2-3-1
Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczęsny (Juventus)
The Sevilla FC number 1, Marko Dmitrović also has similar clean sheets to the total number of games played ratio. But in the competition that will matter on Friday, Wojciech Szczesny has done exceptionally well. In the Europa League, Szczesny has denied the opposition to score on 4 different occasions while being active in 6 games. More impressively he just conceded 2 goals in those participations.
Left-back: Marcos Acuña (Sevilla FC)
Although the Argentine left-back came off the bench in the 2022 World Cup final. Marcos Acuña gets a nod in our team from the very start. The Sevilla number 19 has been doing really well aged at 31. In 26 outings in La Liga, he has been involved in a total of five goals. Out of which the goals tally stands at 3 and assists at 2.
Centre-back: Nemanja Gudelj (Sevilla FC)
Another 31-year-old from the Spanish club joins Acuña in defense. The Spanish manager, José Luis Mendilibar will probably not demand more goals from Nemanja Gudelj. As he already has scored 4 times while appearing in 45 games. The centre-back will be paired with one of Juventus's players.
Centre-back: Gleison Bremer (Juventus)
The 26-year-old Brazilian joined Serie A side Juventus at the start of the 2022-23 season. But he will be looking to end with a winning medal in the second tier of European competition. Gleison Bremer has quickly adapted to the Italian game and will be looking to flourish further. He even has 4 goals and an assist to his name this term.
Right-back: Danilo (Juventus)
Another Brazilian will come in handy, as we complete our defensive line. Danilo already has several winners' medals in different club jerseys. And with his efforts remaining consistent, we deem him the right fit for the right-back position.
Central-midfield: Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)
The left-footed French International has received significant interest from Premier League clubs. The 28-year-old is contracted to Juve until June 2023 - and a Bosman move could be well on the cards. Any club would love to have him, given he has scored 11 times and also helped out his teammates with 4 assists. Massimiliano Allegri has involved Rabiot in 42 games this season.
Central-midfield: Ivan Rakitić (Sevilla FC)
In September 2020, Sevilla FC welcomed Ivan Rakitić (again) with open arms after his 6-year spell at Camp Nou. The former FC Barcelona player has managed to assist 6 goals while also netting 2 of his own. At 35 the Croatian still does his job very well - as we have already seen him play on 44 different occasions.
Left-midfielder: Federico Chiesa (Juventus)
The right-footed Italian will slot in at left midfield. The Juventus number 7 is pacy and creative enough to craft a move or two per game.
Central attacking-midfielder: Ángel Di María (Juventus)
In the CAM role, we have gone with the Argentine World Cup winner. Di María has registered 4 goals in UEFA Europa League this term. And we can't find any reason why he shouldn't go for more.
Right-midfielder: Érik Lamela (Sevilla FC)
Another Argentine, but this time around from the Spanish side Sevilla fills in at the other side of the wing. He has managed to score 6 times while also being involved in 41-odd games.
Striker: Youssef En-Nesyri (Sevilla FC)
In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Youssef En-Nesyri broke the hearts of many Portugal fans worldwide. His solo goal in the 42' minute was enough to send Cristiano Ronaldo and the boys packing their bags in misery. At the club level, the Morrocon En-Nesyri has found the back of the net a total of 17 times across 43 games.
