Manchester City did a 03-peat this season by going ahead of Arsenal at the latter stage of the tournament and coming on top as Premier League champions with 02 games in hand after the Gunners failed to match the intensity of the defending champions.

This Manchester City team were not looking to go down without giving the fight to chase their 5th title in Guardiola Era. This team has some biggest names in football who have been instrumental in making them champions. Let’s take a look at the most decorated players in the club’s history who have made the club one of the fiercest clubs in recent seasons with their contributions.

10. Ederson (Goalkeeper)

Ederson arrived at Manchester City in July, 2017 with a reputation as one of the brightest young goalkeeping prospects in world football. He’s fulfilled his early promise in Manchester, establishing himself as one of the best ‘keepers in England, winning all the domestic titles in the process.

He began his youth career in his native Brazil with São Paulo FC, before venturing into Europe aged 16 to sign with Benfica. It was in Portugal where his professional career began, initially with second-tier outfit Ribeirão, where his form earned him a move to Primeira Liga side, Rio Ave. During a three-year stay, he played 63 games in all competitions and enhanced his reputation so much so that Benfica brought him back to the Stadium of Light in 2015.

With twenty clean sheets, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year, whilst he also saved a penalty in the shootout as City beat Chelsea to lift the Carabao Cup. Ederson’s fantastic footwork, including the sheer distance of some of his kicks has generated much admiration at the Etihad Stadium, and in May 2018 he broke the Guinness World Record for the longest drop kick, registering 75.35 meters.

Ederson won the 2019-20 Golden Glove award for the most Premier League clean sheets and again won the Golden Glove in 2021-22, sharing the award with Alisson Becker of Liverpool with 20 shutouts. In March 2023's 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, became the 17th goalkeeper in the Premier League to reach 100 clean sheets. But, vitally, by achieving it in just 208 games, he became the third quickest to that landmark. Ahead of him are experienced duo Petr Cech at No.1 and Pepe Reina at No.2, who achieved the feat in 180 and 198 games respectively.

9. Kyle Walker - Defender

Kyle Walker was Manchester City’s third signing of the summer 2017, arriving on a five-year deal from Tottenham Hotspur. Taking the number two shirt, the 32-year-old has made the right-back slot his own and won six trophies in his first two seasons. A product of the Sheffield United academy, he spent time on loan at Northampton Town before returning to Bramall Lane and impressing in the final few games of the season 2008-09 season. He left White Hart Lane with 228 appearances to his name and has won the PFA Young Player of the Year in 2012, as well as twice being selected in the PFA Team of the Year.

Since his arrival, Walker has been a near-constant presence. He made his 100th City appearance in the 2019 FA Cup final, reaching the milestone in less than two years. An impressive debut campaign saw him win his first senior honours, the Carabao Cup and Premier League, and he went on to become better in 2019, adding the Community Shield and FA Cup to his medal collection. Walker has been a powerful force at right-back in the latter months of the 2022-23 campaign, helping City secure our third consecutive Premier League title.

8. John Stones - Defender

A product of Barnsley’s academy, John Stones built a reputation as an assured ball-playing center-half with Everton before signing for City in August 2016. His reputation was growing and City swooped, with Pep Guardiola an admirer of Stones’ ability to both neutralize the opposition and launch attacks of his own with his range of passing.

A solid first season saw Stones make 41 appearances and he started his second campaign in superb form, netting twice against Feyenoord in the Champions League before an injury against Leicester disrupted his progress. Nevertheless, he turned out 29 times to help City lift the 2017-18 Premier League and Carabao Cup – his first taste of success at senior level – and won a place in England’s 2018 World Cup squad.

Injury again affected Stones’ 2018-19 season, though he remained an important figure within the team, featuring in 39 games.His versatility to play in both City's defensive and midfield lines has included stand-out performances at the business end of the season. Stones has also demonstrated his defensive versatility so far during the 2022/23 campaign, performing with great distinction at right back as well in the center of defense.

7. Aymeric Laporte - Defender

Aymeric Laporte was a January 2018 acquisition, signed from Athletic Bilbao midway through Pep Guardiola’s second season. The 27-year-old arrived with a reputation as one of Europe’s most promising defenders. By 20 and having showcased his skill and potential at both left-back and his preferred center-half position, he had been named in the La Liga Team of the Year.

In his six seasons with the Basque Country club, he became a first-team regular, playing 222 times, netting 10 goals, and helping them to a 2015 Supercopa de Espana triumph – their first silverware for 31 years. Aymeric’s City career got off to a winning start with a 3-0 victory over West Brom, one day after his transfer was confirmed.

He settled quickly and produced a series of impressive displays, playing 13 times and ending his debut season with Premier League and Carabao Cup winners’ medals. He was imperious in 2018-19 and one of the standout performers as City swept the board domestically, making 51 appearances and starting in the Community Shield, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup wins. He was again outstanding throughout the 2022/23 season, making 44 starts as City clinched a fifth Premier League title in six seasons.

06. İlkay Gündoğan - Midfielder

Ilkay Gundogan moved to Manchester City having earned a reputation as an energetic, intelligent midfielder during the early stages of his career in his native country Germany, this inspired Dortmund to make their move and his summer 2011 transfer paid off in fine style for both the Club and the player.

Gundogan’s form warranted a first senior cap for Germany against Belgium in October 2011, and he played a major role in Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund side as it went on to claim its second successive Bundesliga title and in 2012-13 saw Dortmund vie with Bayern Munich for both the German title and the Champions League, and while they were edged out by Bayern both domestically and in Europe, Gundogan’s stock continued to rise with some eye-catching performances.

Ilkay made his City debut against Borussia Monchengladbach in September 2016 and scored his first goal against Bournemouth four days later. The 2020-21 campaign was Ilkay's fifth with City and also his most successful. A flood of mid-season goals saw the German end the campaign as City's leading scorer with 17 goals from 46 appearances. Gundogan enjoyed another excellent year in 2021-22.

He once more reached double figures for goals - 10 - and his two late goals against Aston Villa were part of an incredible turnaround that saw City recover from 0-2 down to win 3-2 and secure the Premier League title on the final day. Gundogan was afforded the Club captaincy at the start of the 2022-23 campaign.

5. Phil Foden - Midfielder

Widely regarded as one of England’s most gifted players, lifelong Blue Phil Foden excelled at the youth level before graduating into the first team. The Stockport-born playmaker joined City at U9 level now, aged 22 has won all the domestic trophy since his debut. A creative, left-footed midfielder, Foden allies his eye for a pass with an ability to glide past opponents, something which stood out during his time in the Academy.

He was an FA Youth Cup final runner-up in 2016-17, scoring in the first leg of the final as City lost to Chelsea and he also found the net 11 times in the U18 Premier League that season. His form prompted Pep Guardiola to include him in his squad for the Champions League tie against Celtic in December 2016. 

Foden was a key first-team member, with his thrilling array of skills earning him 50 appearances in 2020-21 and 16 goals. He was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year for his efforts during a stunning campaign and he kicked on again in 2021-22, adding another 45 appearances and scoring 14 goals.

Foden's energy and trickery are a key part of Pep Guardiola's attacking philosophy and his performances won him a second successive Young Premier League Player of the Season. The midfielder marked his 200th senior City appearance with a goal and assist against Bournemouth in February 2023. Foden became the youngest player to reach 50 Premier League goal involvements for City in the 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in March 2023.

4. Bernardo Silva - Midfielder

City signed Bernardo Silva in July 2017 after he helped Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and a hugely impressive run to the Champions League semi-finals. Blessed with balance, guile and great technique the Portuguese midfielder is a threat both centrally and out wide and earned the nickname ‘Bubblegum’ due to the manner in which the ball sticks to his feet on mazy dribbles.

His career began with Benfica, where he progressed from the B team, but found first-team opportunities limited, which led to a season-long loan at Monaco in 2013-14. So impressive was he, that the Ligue 1 outfit made the deal permanent six months into the agreement and he flourished over the next three seasons. He recorded 13 goals and 14 assists in 51 appearances, winning Man of the Match in the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea and ending the campaign as the club’s Player of the Season.

In 2019-20, he made 52 appearances and scored eight goals - his third campaign in a that he clocked up a half-century or more for the Club. Bernardo was again integral to the City team in the 2020-21 season, making 45 appearances to take his club total to 201 - an average of 50.25 games per campaign. 2021-22 proved to be another magnificent season for the popular midfielder. As well as winning three successive Etihad Player of the Season votes, he played 50 times and equaled his best goals tally with 13.

3. Fernandinho – Defensive Midfielder

5-time league winner in seasons: 2013-14, 17-18, 18-19, 20-21, 21-22

The Brazilian was by no means a household name when he arrived from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2013, but his quality was evident from the get-go. He played 46 times in his debut season and had an instant impact, with his energetic displays in midfield helping Manuel Pellegrini’s side claim a Premier League and League Cup double for the first time in the Club’s history.

He was City’s Mr Reliable, whose defensive work enabled those in front of him to flourish, but he was undoubtedly a key figure and that was only enhanced by Guardiola’s arrival, under whom he became one of the finest defensive midfielders in the game. It is a crucial role in the Catalan’s intricate system and Fernandinho has fulfilled it perfectly, with disciplined displays that provide protection to the back four whilst also instigating attacks.

He played 48 games during our Centurions season and was named in the PFA Team of the Year as City became the first men’s team in English football history to win all four domestic trophies in 2018-19, with his potent blend of outstanding technical ability, deep tactical understanding and a tireless work rate vital to our success. In 2019-20 he proved himself a capable center-half as his selfless team-first mentality again came to the fore and it was therefore unsurprising when his team-mates voted him club captain and went on to lift the title again during his last year with the club, bowing out with 05 titles to his name.

2. Kevin De Bruyne - Midfielder

5-time league winner in seasons: 17-18, 18-19, 20-21, 21-22, 22-23

Chelsea moved for De Bruyne in January 2012, though he remained with Genk until the end of that season and spent the following campaign on loan at Werder Bremen. He impressed in the Bundesliga, scoring 10 goals in 34 starts before his return to Chelsea.

He found first-team opportunities hard to come by, though, and after just nine appearances, De Bruyne signed for Wolfsburg in January 2014. It was there that he blossomed into one of the best playmakers in world football, hitting 16 goals and breaking the Bundesliga record with 21 assists, as his side finished second and won the German Cup in 2014-15. His efforts saw him crowned Bundesliga Player of the Year and Footballer of the Year.

The 27-year-old became an integral part of the Blues’ attack, orchestrating, providing and often finishing moves that quickly made him indispensable. Few players have enjoyed such a flying start and his 16 goals and 15 assists bear testament to a stunning first campaign for which he was voted City’s Player of the Season.

The 2019-20 season was a stellar one for the Belgian who made 48 appearances and scored 16 goals as well as equalling Thierry Henry's Premier League assist record of 21. His 40 appearances and 10 goals helped City to more silverware and De Bruyne was also voted the PFA Players Player of the Year for a second successive time. KDB remains one of City's greatest signings of modern times, and was included in the FIFPro World XI for a third consecutive year in February 2023.

Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina on the 2nd of June 1988. He started playing football at the age of 9, when he joined the Independiente’s Youth Team. He was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2006, before joining Manchester City on July 27th, 2011. Atletico Madrid signed him for a transfer fee of £15 million.

Agüero scored 7 goals, in his first season at Atletico Madrid. The next season turned out to be a great year for him as he helped Atletico earn a place in the UEFA Champions League and Sergio finished as the league’s 3rd highest goal scorer, scoring 19 goals over the season. His last season at Atletico Madrid saw him score 20 goals before leaving to join City at the end of the 2010-11 season.

Sergio Agüero has carved his name into Manchester City history as the club’s all-time top goal scorer. This City legend was a record signing for the club at £38 million in 2011. The Argentine made his debut for Manchester City on August 15th, 2011 against Swansea at the Etihad and then went on to score 30 times in this title-winning first season.

One of City’s most iconic moments belongs to Agüero, as he scored the crucial 93:20 goal to beat QPR and seal the Club’s first Premier League title at the expense of Manchester United, on the final day of the season in 2012. Aguero's City career came to an end last summer, when he left for a spell at Barcelona, cut short after the Argentine was diagnosed with a heart condition that forced his retirement. Aguero is the latest player to have a statue at Etihad Stadium, following on from those of former skipper Vincent Kompany and star midfielder David Silva, which were unveiled 10 months ago.
