Mohun Bagan Super Giant announce signing of Armando Sadiku on two-year deal
The Mariners have tied the seasoned Albanian striker down to add more attacking firepower.
Albanian hero Armando Sadiku created history by scoring against Romania in Euro 2016. The cutthroat finisher will now aid Mohun Bagan Super Giant in the Indian Super League with his coveted skillset. Signed from Segunda Division (LaLiga 2nd division) club FC Cartagena, Sadiku penned a two-year contract till 2025, with the Indian football mammoths.
The lethal forward possesses the enviable attribute of being able to convert shots from both inside and outside the box. He is a known face in Spanish football, having completed stints at Levante UD, UD Las Palmas, and Malaga CF. For the latter, he scored a good 13 goals across 37 matches. Whereas for UD Las Palmas he also contributed six goals in 26 games.
A storied career
The 32-year-old striker has even played across premier competitions like UEFA Europa League and Champions League qualifying stages. He contested in both with Polish side Legia Warsaw. Moreover, he has experience playing in Swiss and Albanian sides. His metamorphosis from a high-scoring youth team prodigy to a veteran prolific goalscorer has made him an asset for the Albanian national team.
The addition of the European goal machine to Juan Ferrando’s side has added some much-needed firepower. Alongside Dimitri Petratos, Manvir Singh, Liston Colaco, and Hugo Boumous, Sadiku is sure to create a fearsome attacking arsenal. Here’s what he had to say after signing for Mohun Bagan Super Giant:
Sadiku's thoughts on the transfer
“As of now, there is a commendable impression of Indian football in Spain. Players from the Spanish leagues have sung praises about the level of the game and the league in this country. I started finding out more about and became interested in the ISL after Mohun Bagan (Super Giant) contacted me.
Once I validated my findings, I let the club’s management know within a week that I was keen to play in India. Mohun Bagan has a century-old rich heritage in Indian football. The mere prospect of donning the jersey for this 133-year-old club excites me like none other.
I hope that with my new teammates, we shall be able to repeat the ISL triumph like last season. Additionally, my goal will be to aid the club in winning the trophies in the other competitions as well.”
