The Red Miners will welcome a valuable addition to their set-up.
Jamshedpur FC continue their work behind the scenes to get the club back on track and have made one more potential addition to their roster. This time it is Wungngayam Muirang, who is set to join the Red Miners ahead of the 2023-24 season, Khel Now can confirm.
“Jamshedpur FC have signed Wungngayam Muirang from Bengaluru FC. It is a done deal, and the club will soon announce his signing,” a source close to the development told Khel Now.
About the player
Muirang is a young defensive player who hails from Manipur and is one of the most talented prospects that the NorthEast has ever produced. He started his journey with the Sports Authority of India in Imphal, before joining the renowned Shillong Lajong academy.
Muirang belongs to a special batch of players who represented India in the Bayern Munich Youth Cup in 2014. After that he was roped in by Pune FC where he lifted a couple of titles namely the Gold Cup and the Administration Cup. The 24-year-old then signed for the erstwhile FC Pune CIty and played a crucial role in their U-19 side’s IFA Shield conquest.
He was loaned out to I-league outfit Gokulam Kerala FC in the summer of 2018 before making a permanent shift to the Kerala based side in August 2019. He played 11 matches for the Malabarians before making a switch to Bengaluru FC.
In 2020, Muirang was signed by Bengaluru FC on a free transfer, and was a part of the Blues for almost three seasons. He featured for Bengaluru FC’s reserve side in 12 games and even scored a goal. He also turned up on nine occasions to play for the star-studded first team and even helped the Blues win the 2022 Durand Cup in the process.
He’s a naturally gifted player who can operate at multiple positions. A defensive midfielder by trade, Muirang can also play as a makeshift center back and left back if needed. His versatility will come in handy for the men of steel.
Jamshedpur FC’s preparations ahead of the 2023-24 season
After winning the league shield in the 2021-22 season, Jamshedpur FC were expected to continue their rise further, but things only went south from there on. The club announced their elite manager has left the club after a title winning season.
To replace Owen Coyle the club brought in English manager Aidy Boothroyd. But, nothing fell in place for the Englishman in his first season incharge. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, the club is in advanced talks with French midfielder Jeremy Manzorro, Brazilian midfielder Elsinho and have roped in Scott Cooper as head coach.
