East Bengal are making changes aplenty before the upcoming season.

East Bengal have announced the departure of Pawan Kumar and Wahengbam Angousana. The club took to social media to wish the duo the best of luck going forward and thanked them for their contribution to the team.

Pawan Kumar joined East Bengal in 2022 from Jamshedpur FC. The custodian made his first Indian Super League appearance for Chennaiyin FC and then went on to play for NorthEast United before signing for Jamshedpur FC. The 33-year-old did not make any appearance for the Red & Gold Brigade in the ISL last term. The two-time ISL winner with CFC leaves the club after one season.

On the other hand, Wahengbam Angousana joined East Bengal from TRAU FC in 2020. He leaves the club after three years. The midfielder made 29 appearances for the club in the ISL and made three assists in the process.

Changes aplenty at East Bengal

It was a difficult campaign for East Bengal in the 2022-23 season of the Indian Super League. The club struggled for consistency and finished in ninth place out of 11 teams. In order to improve their chances of qualifying for the ISL playoffs and become a major figure in Indian football once again, the club hierarchy has made several key changes.

One of the major ones is the appointment of former ISL winner Carles Cuadrat as the head coach. To help him make the Red & Gold Brigade a competent side, there have been several new signings at the club.

Players like Saul Crespo and Nandhakumar Sekar from Odisha FC, Javier Siverio and Borja Herrera from Hyderabad FC, and Prabhsukhan Gill from Kerala Blasters among others, are stepping into the team ahead of the new season. Unfortunately for Pawan Kumar and Wahengbam Angousana, they became surplus to the club's requirements.
