Erik ten Hag says 'it's a club decision' on Mason Greenwood's return
The Manchester United forward has not played for the last 18 months
Erik ten Hag has given his verdict on Mason Greenwood's situation at Manchester United. The forward has not played for the Red Devils for the last 18 months.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Manchester United manager said that "It's a club decision and of course, I shared my opinions but it's a club decision and we all have to accept that."
Asked if he would like to keep Greenwood, Erik ten Hag said: "I can't say so much about it but I shared my opinion about it, so let's see what's going to happen."
He gave this interview at the New Jersey training base ahead of a friendly match against Arsenal.
Mason Greenwood was cleared of all charges against him. He is now looking to revive his professional career and play for his childhood club.
However, the current situation of the player shows that there is still an internal investigation going on in the club. This will continue until the season starts. Greenwood's future will be decided after that.
There are rumours that the 21-year-old could be sent out on a loan deal to get his touch back. Jose Mourinho made contact with the player and has encouraged him.
In October 2022 he was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but in February this year the Crown Prosecution Service dropped the charges, citing the withdrawal of a key witness and new material that came to light' meaning there was no longer a 'realistic prospect of conviction'.
Manchester United have since launched their own internal investigation into the issue but a decision on what will happen with Greenwood is yet to be made, with the 21-year-old still suspended and absent from training.
