Ousmane Dembele will receive 50% of his €50m transfer fee ahead of PSG switch

The French forward has given the green light to PSG

L'Equipe reports that a sizable portion of the €50 million Paris Saint-Germain are expected to spend to recruit the French forward will go to Ousmane Dembele. The 26-year-old was strongly rumoured to be leaving this summer and is now close to finalising a transfer to PSG.

The 26-year-old extended his contract with Barcelona for two years last summer. The agreement did provide, however, that his release clause could be reduced to €50 million for the period of July 2023.

Dembele was initially acquired by Barcelona for a staggering €135 million from Borussia Dortmund. Therefore, the €50 million charge alone amounts to a substantial loss for the Catalans.

Barcelona's financial situation made things worse because they were unable to provide Dembele with a loyalty incentive when he signed his new contract in the summer of 2016.

They consequently decided that Dembele and his agency would receive 50% of any future transfer money. Let's just assume that out of the €50 million that PSG paid to hire him, the Catalans will only earn €25 million.

Dembele and his legal representative receive the remainder of the funds. That sums up to a €110 million loss for Barca due to the Frenchman.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Dembele and PSG have verbally agreed on a five-year contract. For some time now, the Parisians have been endeavouring to conjure a move, and they have now succeeded in persuading the player.

Dembele's release clause will return to its original amount of €100 million if PSG doesn't complete the transaction by midnight. As a result, they are attempting to complete the move in a hurry.

Xavi Hernandez, the head coach of Barcelona, is likely to be disappointed by the news because he had hoped that the Frenchman would turn down PSG's offer and choose to remain at Camp Nou.

When inquired about Dembele's future at Barcelona, Xavi appeared confident. Last Saturday, after Barca defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in a friendly match.
