Durand Cup 2023: Downtown Heroes FC vs Shillong Lajong – Build-up

The 20th match of the 132nd IndianOil Durand Cup will be between Downtown Heroes FC and Shillong Lajong at the SAI Stadium. Downtown Heroes FC are for the first time in action in the Durand Cup.

This is the second match of the day. Kerala Blasters FC and Gokulam Kerala FC play the opener.

Downtown Heroes FC and Shillong Lajong are in Group D along with FC Goa and NorthEast United FC. Both ISL sides are favourites to make it to the next stage.

Shillong will play for pride in this match. The North Eastern team suffered a 4-0 loss against rival NorthEast United FC in the opening fixture. Their second match also resulted in a more heavy defeat. FC Goa scored six past their defence. Shillong Lajong are already out of the competition and will hope to improve on their record in the last match.

Downtown Heroes FC was established in 2020, and the club plays in the I-League 2. The Jammu and Kashmir-based club aims to make its mark on the big stage.

FC Goa and NorthEast United FC are level on points in Group D. Four points in the first two games have almost guaranteed them a place in the knockout stage.

Downtown Heroes and Shillong Lajong have a poor record in front of the goal in the last five matches. Shillong have scored four goals in their last five outings, but the defence has leaked 18 goals. Their opposition for the day has not scored a goal in their last five matches.

One team will look to make a positive start in the Durand Cup 2023, while the other team will look to head out with a win.
