The youngster has started the new season with a bang!

NorthEast United kickstarted their 2023-24 season on the right note, as they bagged an emphatic win in their opening game of the coveted Durand Cup. The Highlanders claimed a 4-0 win against Northeastern neighbours Shillong Lajong, in a game that had Parthib Gogoi’s brilliance written all over it.

The 20-year-old, who came off the back of an amazing 2022-23 season, has exceeded expectations in his first game of the new season, as he scored his first ever senior career hat-trick.

On that note, let’s take a closer look into the three goals by the superstar of the evening – Parthib Gogoi.

The first goal came in around the half-hour mark, when Rochharzela made a wonderful run, and took a beautiful curler. The goalkeeper’s attempt to save the driving strike only led to an open goal for Parthib, who pounced on the opportunity to give his side the lead.

Following that, his next goal came in the second half, when a pinpoint pass was sent on from the right flank, with Parthib Gogoi only having to tap the ball past the keeper.

Just minutes later, NorthEast made a mesmerising move right from the half way line, as Romain Philippoteaux gave a beautiful through ball onto the path of Jithin, who excellently squared it off to Parthib, and the youngster scored his third for the night.

Overall, NorthEast United would be very much delighted from their game tonight, as they have made the right start to a new season. Moreover, they have also gotten a testament of the incredible potential that their young gun Parthib Gogoi possesses.

The Highlanders now need to look forward to their next game on 12 July, when they take on FC Goa, which will be a tough challenge and a reality check of the progress that they have made.
