Profile: Miloš Drinčić | Colossal Force at Kerala Blasters' defence
Miloš Drinčić’s arrival is set to fortify Kerala’s defense, rendering them more resilient and difficult to breach.
Miloš Drinčić, a Montenegrin center-back, joined Kerala Blasters FC on August 14th. The 24-year-old, boasting nearly 230 appearances in the top tiers of Montenegro and Belarus, signed a one-year deal for the upcoming Indian Super League season.
Emerging as Kerala Blasters’ sixth signing, the towering defender joins the ranks alongside Ishan Pandita, Lara Sharma, Pritam Kotal, Naocha Singh, Prabir Das, and Jaushua Sotirio. With these acquisitions, Kerala Blasters are strategically reinforcing their squad in a bid to contend for the league title.
Prior Experience
Moving from Podgorica U19’s youth ranks, Miloš Drinčić embarked on his senior football journey with FK Iskra. The Montenegrin defender’s evolution saw him amass around 230 appearances across the premier tiers of Montenegro and Belarus. This wealth of experience underscores his adeptness in navigating various football environments.
Notably, Drinčić holds valuable exposure to the rigorous arena of European cup competitions, notably the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League qualifying rounds. This exposure attests to his competitiveness at a higher level of football.
A standout moment in his journey includes his pivotal contribution of 180 minutes during the Champions League qualifier against Ludogorets in the past season. This showcases his ability to rise to challenges on significant stages.
Type of player
Standing at an imposing 6 feet 4 inches, the 24-year-old defender commands attention with his height advantage. His presence is particularly valuable while defending crosses into the box, utilizing his stature effectively. Beyond aerial prowess, he exhibits reliability in thwarting long balls, preventing oppositions from gaining ground by thwarting their attempts to go long and win headers. His composure on the ball stands out, as he avoids hasty clearances and instead seeks out teammates, even when under pressure.
Beyond defensive finesse, he showcases versatility. Possessing adept ball control, he doesn’t just resort to hasty clearances; instead, he explores passing options while remaining composed. Moreover, his capabilities extend to midfield ventures, serving as an outlet when passing lanes are scarce. These multifaceted skills make him a valuable asset to Kerala Blasters FC, promising to enrich their defensive strategies while contributing to controlled build-up play and seamless transitions from defense to attack.
What he brings to the team
Securing the 5th place in the league and successfully advancing to the knockout round, Kerala Blasters’ recent performance was notable. However, a critical concern arose from their defensive record, having conceded 28 goals during the league, averaging at 1.40 goals per game. To address this vulnerability, the arrival of Miloš Drinčić holds significant promise. Alongside stalwarts Aman Chhetri and Marko Lešković, Drinčić’s addition aims to infuse the much-needed solidity into the defensive line.
Chhetri and Lešković played pivotal roles in the team’s previous season, showcasing their defensive prowess. With Drinčić entering the scene, the competition for a spot in the starting lineup intensifies, and he’s poised to vie for his place among these seasoned defenders. His attributes seamlessly align with Kerala Blasters’ aspirations to elevate their performance and aim for a commendable top 3 finish in the current season.
As the team aims to push its boundaries, Drinčić qualities are expected to play a pivotal role in achieving this goal. His arrival not only adds depth and competition to the defensive ranks but also augments the team’s potential to fortify their game, compete at a higher level, and make their presence felt in the top tier of the league.
