Freddy won the I-League last season at Punjab FC.

Punjab FC midfielder Freddy Lallawmawma is all set to join Kerala Blasters, Khel Now can confirm. A source close to the development informed Khel Now this afternoon, “Freddy Lallawmawma, who was at Punjab FC last term is set to sign for Kerala Blasters.”

Freddy won the I-League 2022-23 with Punjab FC and seems to be ready to play in the Indian Super League. Kerala Blasters meanwhile, have Jeakson Singh and Vibin Mohanan in this position. However, with Ayush Adhikari and previously Puitea leaving the club, the Blasters needed someone to solidify the defensive midfield region. Undoubtedly, Freddy fills that gap!

On signing for Kerala Blasters, Freddy said, “I am extremely grateful for this exciting opportunity. Kerala Blasters is one of the biggest clubs in the country and I see this opportunity as the next big step in my growth as a player. I promise to do everything within my control to do whatever role the club requires me to fulfill.”

Who is Freddy Lallawmawma?

Just 21, Freddy is a defensive midfielder who recently plied his trade at Punjab FC. Last season, he made a total of 22 appearances for Punjab across both I-League and Hero Super Cup. He even played 87 minutes against Kerala Blasters in the Hero Super Cup, a game which Punjab FC lost by 3-1.

Kerala Blasters’ preparations for the upcoming ISL edition

The Blasters have signed quite a number of players. Their approach has been somewhat different compared to other clubs as they have targetted foreigners who are pretty young – Justine Emmanuel, Milos Drincic and even Kwame Peprah.

Kerala Blasters have also signed Ishan Pandita, Lara Sharma, Pritam Kotal and Aiban Dohling to strengthen their squad. Ever since their introduction to the Indian Super League, the club has failed to win the trophy. A new approach combined with some new players might just be what the doctor ordered.

Although the Blasters didn’t perform well in the Durand Cup 2023, they will slowly settle down with all their players joining training and performing to their best abilities to prove their mettle in the Indian Super League.
