Marco Reus, Jürgen Wegmann and Arjen Robben share the fourth spot

The DFL-Supercup is a single-game event contested between the winners of the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal competitions in Germany. Previously though the event used to be called the DFB-Supercup. From 2010 onwards it was renamed to the term now being used. And if a certain team manages to win both the DFB-Pokal and the Bundesliga, the event of DFL-Supercup is then contested by the runners-up of the Bundesliga.

Last season FC Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig had fans on their toes with the highest-ever scoring recorded in the history of the Supercup. The game ended 5-3 in favour of the Bavarian giants. And in an interesting turn of events, the same sides are back at it in the 24th edition of the DFL-Supercup event.

Here are the current top 6 all-time scorers in the DFL-Supercup history:

6. Marco Reus – 3 goals

Marco Reus
Reus has won the DFL-Supercup three times

In the summer of 2012, Borussia Dortmund understood and recovered from the mistake of letting Marco Reus leave back in 2005 when he used to be an under-17 player in their youth ranks. Fast forward to 2023, and Reus is still playing for the same team even though many teams in Europe have tried to prize him away. The one club man has had a fair share of success in DFL-Supercup having won it thrice in 2014, 2015 and 2020 editions. In 5 total outings in Supercup, he managed to score 3 goals which gives him recognition in the fourth place of all-time scorers.

5. Jürgen Wegmann – 3 goals

Jürgen Wegmann is now 59 years old and has retired way back from football when the competition used to be called the DFB-Supercup. The former centre-forward lifted the trophy on four occasions back to back from 1987 to 1990. This included three winners’ medals with FC Bayern while the last one came with Borussia Dortmund. As per transfermarkt, in 337 official games at the club level, Wegmann managed to score 133 times.

4. Arjen Robben – 3 goals

Arjen Robben might have decided to hang up his boots in July 2021 but his name still surfaces in several records in Germany and beyond. The Dutch winger used to be a scary sight for any defence and goalkeepers in particular when he used to cut inside from the right wing for a shot from his left foot. Robben has played for big names such as Chelsea, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich with immense success. Similar to Wegmann, Robben also lifted the Supercup four times while also founding the net thrice in total.

3. Wynton Rufer – 4 goals

The biggest star to ever grace the pitches of the Bundesliga from New Zealand is no doubt, Wynton Rufer. It’s been two decades since Wynton Rufer’s retirement however New Zealand hasn’t seen a better success than what Rufer achieved. Werder Bremen recognised the talent Rufer had and gave the 26-year-old a chance to play for them. In six years at Bremen, he had quite a few successes. This included winning the Supercup back to back in 1994 and 1995. In 3 Supercup appearances, he managed to net 4 goals in total.

2. Thomas Müller – 5 goals

Thomas Müller will be hoping to get on the scoresheet in the 24th edition of the DFL-Supercup as he is 2 goals shy to tie with his former teammate. Coming through the ranks of Bayern’s youth system, the German International was called up for first-team action back in 2009. And ever since has been omnipresent in the Bavarian squad.

The 2014 FIFA World Cup winner with Germany’s national football team has lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern on 12 occasions. And going by the analogy he was definitely going to have a better success rate in Supercup competition as well. He lifted the DFL-Supercup a record 8 times while also gathering 5 goals in total.

1. Robert Lewandowski – 7 goals

The Polish striker was an unheard name until Borussia Dortmund snatched up the man in the summer of 2010. The move saw Robert Lewandowski leave Lech Poznan to move to Germany. And thereafter came the success, fame and goals that fans now know him for.

Before moving to LaLiga side FC Barcelona last summer, the Polish forward managed to rack in 7 goals in total in the DFL-Supercup events. Lewandowski also got his hands on the Supercup trophy a total of 6 times during his time with FC Bayern and Dortmund while he was in Germany. Out of the six Supercup titles, Lewandowski lifted only once with Dortmund in 2014.
