With just two weeks left before the new season gets underway, the Blaugrana aiming to assemble the new team, as they look to retain their LaLiga crown.

Up until now, the club have done a fairly decent job in the transfer market, roping in Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, and Oriol Romeu while reaching an agreement to sign Vitor Roque. However, while the LaLiga table looks mightily healthy with a double-digit gap to Real Madrid, the figures on Barcelona‘s balance sheet are nowhere near as attractive. Naturally, with Laporta at the helm, the goals for the transfer window will be characteristically aspirational. Based on their recent performances, here’s a look at how Barcelona could line up for the 2023-24 campaign.

Formation: 4-3-3

GK: Marc-Andre ter Stegen

With more La Liga clean sheets in one season than any other Barcelona goalkeeper in the history of the Spanish top-flight, Ter Stegen’s place is safe for another year. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will be 31 and at his peak in the 2023/24 season, so is likely to be between the sticks for the Blaugrana. He will be one of the most experienced players in that squad and is going to be the most important piece in the Barcelona squad, considering they won’t have a reliable backup for the German.

RB: Jules Kounde

If Barcelona still had all the levers available to them, there may be an upgrade at right-back. Yet, with La Liga furtively pouring over every decimal point, what funds Barcelona can conjure up will likely be used elsewhere. Ronald Araujo has assisted 2 goals in 22 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season.

Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Araujo da Silva passes the ball roughly 62.46 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 89.06%. Jules Kounde has assisted 3 goals in 29 matches so far in the La Liga 2022-2023 season. Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Kounde passes the ball roughly 68.51 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 88.86%.

CB: Ronald Araujo

Araujo is a key player for Barcelona

Seemingly the only LaLiga defender that can consistently muzzle Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior, the admiration between Xavi and Araujo is mutual. Ronald Araujo has conceded 5 goals and kept 16 clean sheets in 22 matches in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season.

That means when Araujo da Silva is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 361 minutes. Ronald Araujo has assisted 2 goals in 22 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Araujo da Silva passes the ball roughly 62.46 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 89.06%.

CB: Andreas Christensen

Without hogging the plaudits of other teammates, Christensen has been subtly superb at the heart of the best defense not only in Spain but across Europe’s top five leagues during his debut season. As a Defender, Andreas Christensen has conceded 13 goals and kept 13 clean sheets in 23 matches in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. That means when Christensen is on the pitch, his team concedes a goal every 136 minutes. Moreover, he’s made 1.07 tackles and 1.02 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch. Christensen passes the ball roughly 76.09 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 93.84%.

LB: Alejandro Balde

The fleet-footed Masia graduate will still be a teenager by the start of the 2023-24 campaign. Nevertheless, as Jordi Alba’s role continues to dwindle, Balde is set to cement his spot haring up and down the left flank. As a Defender, Alejandro Balde has conceded 14 goals and kept 23 clean sheets in 33 matches in the La Liga 2022-2023 season.

With him on the pitch, his team conceded a goal every 177 minutes. Moreover, he’s made 1.64 tackles and 0.44 interceptions for every 90 minutes he was on the pitch. Alejandro Balde has assisted 6 goals in 33 matches so far in the La Liga 2022-2023 season. Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Balde Martinez passes the ball roughly 51.12 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 91.12%.

CM: Frenkie de Jong

Frenkie De Jong
Frenkie de Jong will likely start the season in the Sergio Busquets role

Multiple media outlets recently suggested that Manchester United were even successful in reaching an initial agreement with Barcelona over a €65 million fee plus add-ons for the Dutch footballer. Though, now in a big twist it is being understood that De Jong has informed Barcelona that he will not leave the Spanish football club this summer.

Talking about his recent season performance, Frenkie de Jong has taken 16 shots in 33 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. Of the 16 shots, 11 shots were on target and the other 5 shots were off target. That means that de Jong’s shooting accuracy is 68.75%. Frenkie de Jong has assisted 4 goals in 33 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. Looking into his passing aspect of the game, de Jong passes the ball roughly 79.90 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 91.44%.

CM: Ilkay Gundogan

The arrival of the Germany international will boost Xavi’s midfield options, although it’s not clear yet how the coach plans to use Gundogan. Barcelona’s new arrival has spoken about where he might play and which positions, he’s enjoyed the most across the midfield as he is a great replacement for a cerebral midfielder to fill the void vacated by the departing players.

Gundogan was offered a new deal by City but will instead move to the Spanish champions on a two-year deal, with the option to extend for another year. Like his old Borussia Dortmund teammate Robert Lewandowski, whose goals effectively turned Barcelona into a title-winning team last season, Gundogan was seduced by the persuasive effervescence of coach Xavi Hernandez, by the beautiful life in the city where his new club is based and by the romantic idea of revitalizing a footballing identity that remains faded and jaded.

CM: Pedri

When detailing the importance of the slender midfielder, Xavi once gushed: “Pedri gives us a lot of tranquillity. He makes every ball that goes through his feet better. I’m just calmer when he has the ball, it’s that simple.” Pedri has scored 6 goals in 26 matches so far in the La Liga 2022-2023 season. 3 of the 6 goals were scored at home while he scored 3 goals at away games. Overall, Pedri’s goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.27 and his total G/A (goals + assists) is 7 for this season.

Pedri has taken 18 shots in 26 matches so far in the La Liga 2022-2023 season. Of the 18 shots, 9 shots were on target and the other 9 shots were off target. Looking into his passing aspect of the game, he passes the ball roughly 63.66 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 87.73%.

RW: Raphinha

Two years after Messi sobbed his way out of Camp Nou and now Dembele going the same way to Paris, rejecting the new deal with the Catalans. They might have found someone who could solve their problems for coming seasons. Raphinha has scored 7 goals in 36 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. 3 of the 7 goals were scored at home while he scored 4 goals at away games. Lewandowski scored 23 goals in 34 LaLiga matches last season

Despite a post-World Cup blank, Lewandowski’s debut season in LaLiga can be viewed as an overall success. Robert Lewandowski has scored 23 goals in 34 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season. 10 of the 23 goals were scored at home while he scored 13 goals at away games. That means that Lewandowski’s shooting accuracy is 51.79%. He scores a goal for every 4.87 shots he takes and takes 3.53 shots per 90 minutes on the pitch.

LW: Gavi

The muddled shirt number history that has played out on the back of Gavi’s jerseys this season underpins the complex nature of the teenager’s contractual situation. Gavi has assisted 4 goals in 36 matches so far in the LaLiga 2022-2023 season.

Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Paez Gavira passes the ball roughly 41.03 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 87.58%.
