So, it is August and any football enthusiast will tell you it is the beginning of the football season. The transfer window closes and players, teams, and fans have the final picture of how their team will look for the rest of the season. Specifically for the Premier League fanatics, it is another season, and another shot to glory for getting your best 11 fantasy picks for Gameweek 1.

Almost every year 5 to 6 million players put their tactics and pundit tricks to the test from all across the world and with eyes set again on this 2023-24 season, they have been brainstorming going on for picking up the captain who will double their digits and give a push on overall ratings. Here are the top five best captain picks for FPL 2023-24 going into GW1:

5. Bruno Fernandes vs Wolves (H)- Selected by 26.7% of Managers

The team captain for the Red Devils this season will be looking to have another illustrious year of football in the premier league. He have been kept a little silent this past season in terms of Goals but his work rate is not to be questioned. He have become the central figure in initiating the attack and makes the most number of final third passes.

He is the key creator in the side, ranking top among all players for key passes (119) and big chances created (32) last campaign. He also is on penalty-scoring duties with his exceptional record in front of the goal. Fernandes is someone who can help FPL managers with exceptional returns with him only being selected by a quarter of the managers.

4. Mohammed Salah vs Chelsea (A)- Selected by 23.6% of Managers

The Egyptian king will be more than petrified to prove himself this season as Liverpool had a below-par season. This didn’t phase him much and he kept on doing what he does, which is getting the maximum returns for his FPL Owners. He ensured 239 points last season and will be again on the radar of the owners. His only drawback is his price of 12.5M which leaves a heavy dent on the budget.

This makes him more like a gamble to take where you could buy him and compromise on other players or leave him and pray he doesn’t go big. He will surely have more duties and responsibilities on his shoulders this season as he is the only one who remains in the dynamic trio of Salah, Firmino and Mane.

3. Marcus Rashford vs Wolves (H) – Selected by 45.3% of Managers

The English forward is maturing as the fine no. 10 in the long lineage of the exceptional striker. Two favorable home games in the first three gameweeks see Marcus Rashford ascend the midfield rankings, as Manchester United entertain Wolves and Nottingham Forest.

Marcus Rashford’s home form last season was incredible, with only Erling Haaland beating his 143 points at Old Trafford. With two attractive home games in the first three, Rashford seems like a dead cert to include after scoring an impressive 13 of his 17 goals on home turf. Rashford also ranked second for big chances last season with 35.

2. Bukayo Saka vs Nottingham Forrest (H) – Selected by 56.4% of Managers

Here is the second-most-selected player and the most-selected midfielder in the FPL. Saka last season was just phenomenal, his potential almost saw Arsenal past the winners line, ALMOST! This season again Arsenal are the favorites because of their heavy weight signings, Mikel Arteta might actually take them to the dreamland. Saka is one of the players in the team sheet who can be involved in the scoresheet quite often. He is one player who can bag bonus points in the squad and his value in comparison to rest of the players on the sheet is actually one of the other reasons to have him.

Saka led the way with goal involvements last season, scoring 14 times and setting up a further 12, and is more of a threat in the penalty area than Odegaard. Game time shouldn’t be a factor either even though Arsenal have continued to strengthen their squad with big-money signings.

1. Erling Haaland vs Burnley (A)– Selected by 86.4% of Managers

There is no doubt about the fact that he is the most selected player in this year’s edition and that is because of the effect he left on this league which people thought was tough and fast-paced. If last season was not one of the best in recent times in terms of nail-biting deciders, it was a season that saw Haaland dominating the defenses and smashing records that stood tall for more than a decade.

Haaland is simply a must-have as the best goal scorer the Premier League has ever seen. Do not be put off by his £2.5m price increase, he’s worth every penny. He is not only the first name on the sheet but also the top pick for the captain because him scoring a goal or assisting a couple is something that we expect from him as a bare minimum. He is also on penalty-taking duties and is a threat on attack and on corners. Burnley have already felt the wrath of his attacks in their FA Cup meeting and looks like they might end up feeling this Déjà vu.
