The young forward’s time at Manchester United is finally over

Mason Greenwood has not played for Manchester United since January 2022, shortly before he was suspended by the club because, in February, Greenwood was charged with attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service when he forced himself on his partner.

In recent weeks the club was leaning towards reintegrating him into Erik ten Hag’s squad. But the club, which claimed last week it had not decided on Greenwood’s future, faced a backlash, with many angered by the prospect of Greenwood’s return. On Monday with mutual decision, it was decided that he won’t return to the Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old has a lot of potential and clubs around the world will possibly look to sign him. Here’s the list of clubs that could go all in to sign the youngster:

6. Al-Ettifaq

Manchester United have not revealed whether they will be terminating Greenwood’s contract at Old Trafford or sending him out on loan. The Saudi club which is being managed by Steven Gerrard now and captained by ex-Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson know a little too much about his game.

September 20 is the last date for Saudi clubs to sign a player unlike September 1 of England football, so possibly United and Greenwood will look for best options for him. It is suggested that Greenwood could be offered a contract worth £10 million a year in the Middle East to revitalise his career.

5. AS Monaco

Monaco is one of the only French club to show interest in signing Greenwood, Monaco has produced some world-class players including Bernardo Silva, Mbappe and Falcao. The French club are interested in signing him on loan for the current season.

Ben Yedder, Kevin Volland and Myron Boadu remain as Monaco’s attacking options. However, Ben Yedder and Volland have just one year remaining on their contracts, and both have been linked with a departure this summer so signing Greenwood would strengthen their attack, helping Monaco with all the experience he has of playing at the top level for one of the most prestigious clubs.

4. Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have been looking to sign Manchester United youngster Mason Greenwood who will never play for the club again since the winter transfer window of the 2022-23 season. Fred, the former midfielder at United was signed by the Turkish club and could prove to be the deciding factor in convincing Greenwood to join the Turkey club.

Fenerbahce is one of the few Turkish clubs interested in signing Greenwood who could go on a loan this transfer window. Greenwood can fill the void of Guler who recently moved to Real Madrid, Greenwood can be helpful to the club as he is among the upcoming youngsters in world football.

3. AC Milan

There has been talk of loan offers being put to United, Serie A giants Milan are mulling over a summer approach to bring Greenwood to San Siro this summer. Rossoneri have considered a number of options for this window and have added Pulisic to the squad, he scored a banger in their last match but Greenwood is a player in their thoughts as they seek to reinforce an ageing attacking unit.

The one-cap England international is eager to get his career back on track – and a move away from the Premier League would be critical in restarting his career. They are eyeing Greenwood amid his uncertain future right now.

2. Juventus

The Turin club have made a serious enquiry about the player’s status, following a similar request from fellow Serie A clubs. They are also possibly looking for a loan move for Greenwood. It has been suggested that Juventus are already sounding out Greenwood’s camp ahead of a potential move, with the Serie A giants hoping a long-term loan deal can be agreed on with United this summer.

They are now in talks to sign the youngster and revive his career. Juventus are very keen on bringing him to the club, the uncertain future of Lukaku and Vlahovic can pave a way for Greenwood in Massimiliano Allegri’s side and will join his former teammate Paul Pogba.

1. AS Roma

Roma is another Italian club interested in signing him, Smalling the former United player was also sent on loan to Roma before he was permanently signed by the club. Roma is currently being managed by Mourinho, he gave a kickstart to Greenwood’s career by launching him in the senior team during his United days.

Greenwood has featured in 129 matches for United in all competitions – chipping in with 35 goals. Roma remain the favourites to sign him, the pair know each other from their time at Old Trafford. Greenwood could fill the void left up front by Tammy Abraham’s long-term knee injury, further strengthening the club’s English contingent that also contains former United defender Chris Smalling.
