Who is Da’vian Kimbrough?

Da’vian Kimbrough is an American- Mexican teenage footballer who has become the youngest ever athlete to sign a professional sports contract in the history of American sports. Aged just 13 years, five months and 13 days, Kimbrough signed a professional contract with soccer side Sacramento Republic FC, a team which competes in the USL championship, the second level of soccer in the USA, it ranks below the MLS. Kimbrough is yet to play top-flight football.

However, he has been earmarked by many pundits and scouts to have a successful professional career ahead.

What are his past experiences like?

Da’vian Kimbrough joined the youth academy of the club in 2021 aged just 11. In his first season at the club, he scored 27 times in 31 games for their youth academy, while playing with and against players who were considerably older than him.

In his debut season in the team’s youth academy, he played a key role in the Republic’s under-13 team, earning a countrywide-best record of 30 wins and one loss, including 27 straight wins to begin the season.

The Republic outscored opponents 148-22 as they finished first in their MLS Next division, the youth category of Major League Soccer, thanks in large part to Kimbrough. In two MLS Next seasons, he made 81 appearances and scored 61 goals.

Da’vian Kimbrough also spent some time in the youth set up of MLS side New York Red Bulls during the last season. As his loan spell ended, Republic awarded him with a professional contract. Mark Briggs, the head coach of Republic Sacramento FC said about the teenager:

“A young player’s path is never the same as the person seated next to them. Da’vian has shown tremendous focus, commitment and dedication, as well as a willingness to embrace the challenging road ahead of him,”

What is Da’vian Kimbrough’s playing style like?

Kimbrough is a teenager and a lot of aspects of his game are yet to fully reveal themselves. As of now, his finishing skills in the box have caught the eye of scouts.
