These players will be popular picks for the captaincy chip due to favourable fixtures.

The Fantasy Premier League has completed three game weeks and the managers are busy preparing their squads ahead of game week four of the Premier League. The captaincy chip is one of the most crucial tools that can help FPL managers rise in the rankings and leave their competition behind.

As is the rule, the player with the captaincy chip has their score doubled. Therefore, it takes careful thinking and strategising before handing the captaincy to a particular player. As the GW4 gets closer, FPL managers will be spending countless hours analysing upcoming fixtures, player form and past performances in order to pick the perfect captain.

To make things easier for the countless confused FPL managers worldwide, here are the top five best captain picks ahead of FPL 2023-24 GW4:

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) – £8.6m

Arsenal play Manchester United at home in the upcoming game week. One of the most electrifying fixtures of the weekend will certainly see a lot of action. Bukayo Saka scored against MUFC when the two teams met last time at the Emirates Stadium in a 3-2 win.

The winger has already scored twice in the first three games of the league. He converted a penalty in the previous fixture against Fulham. On form, Saka could return a lot of points for his owners in FPL given his history of impactful performances against the Red Devils – which are already struggling with defensive issues.

James Maddison (Spurs) – £7.7m

James Maddison’s life at Tottenham Hotspur has got off to a brilliant start. The midfielder returned 10 points in GW3 with a goal against Bournemouth. His hunger for goals and creativity make him a dangerous threat, poised to score a lot of points.

Tottenham Hotspur is in good form and the side plays against a struggling Burnley in the upcoming fixture. Ange Postecoglou has the outfit playing an attacking brand of football where Maddison is a key figure.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – £14.0m

Erling Haaland is the safe option to give the captaincy to. The Manchester City striker scored against Sheffield United in the previous fixture but could have easily had multiple goals if luck was on his side.

One can always expect the Norwegian international to score a bunch of goals no matter the opponent. However, an upcoming game against Fulham at home is a recipe for a lot of points – something that Haaland’s FPL owners will be hoping for.

Bryan Mbuemo (Brentford) – £6.8m

Bryan Mbuemo’s form is one of the best in the Premier League at the moment. The Brentford FC winger – a midfielder in FPL terms – is already flying high with three goals and 25 points.

Brentford is up against Bournemouth which could be a game full of goals due to the high stakes on the line. Both teams will be direct rivals to avoid relegation down the road and will pull out all stops to secure three points. The favourable fixture and Mbuemo being a differential make him an ideal captaincy choice.

Raheem Sterling (Chelsea) – £7.1m

Raheem Sterling made a huge impact for Chelsea in their 3-0 win over Luton Town. He scored a brace and provided an assist to accumulate 19 points for his FPL owners.

The winger has been transferred in by 598,726 FPL managers before the GW4, making him the most transferred-in player. Chelsea is up against Nottingham Forest, a club that has already conceded six goals in the first three games of the season. Therefore, one can expect the Blues – playing at home – to score multiple goals and Sterling to play a role in scoring them.
