Ilkay Gundogan could leave Barcelona for free on Sunday due to contract clause
The Spanish club need to register their midfielder before Sunday
Ilkay Gundogan joined Barcelona after his contract expired with treble winners Manchester City. However, the German player might leave the Spanish club if they fail to register him before Sunday.
According to Forbes, a clause in Gundogan’s contract allows him to leave the club for free if Barcelona doesn’t register him before their season starts at Getafe. They also state that the clause will see him pay for an entire year’s salary.
Spanish publication AS Sport has already revealed that the German has signed a deal worth £8.6 million per season. This is expected to be a two-year deal, with an option to extend for another year.
Barcelona are only said to have registered 13 players ahead of their LaLiga opener, including Ousmane Dembele and Franck Kessie, who could leave the club in the coming days.
Forbes states that Barcelona president Joan Laporta is ‘banking on those sales’ to help register their new signings and is also set to offload a 16 per cent stake in Barca Studios, worth £56 million, to a German investment firm.

Ilkay Gundogan scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 52 games for Manchester City last season. A brace against Manchester United in the FA Cup was enough to win the match.
The five-time Premier League winner is likely to remain at Barcelona. The Spanish club will do its best to keep the German. He adds experience to a young midfield, and Xavi will look to build the team around him.
The 32-year-old played against Arsenal and Real Madrid in recent friendlies. Barca won’t allow their experienced player to go that easily.
